vibe/buzz at 90 mph

great site. thanks to the administrators for supporting mini owners.

about me: a lifelong biker who has miraculously found four wheels can be as exciting and fun as two--so long as a mini-s logo is attached to the fender. i really love this car!

i've got an '07 s-coupe with hypersports package.

at about 90 mph, there is a vibration/buzz emanating from behind the dash. could be in the engine compartment.

the buzz is road-speed dependent (not engine rpm dependent). could it be that portions of the bodywork are vibrating in the wind?

will mention it at first service, though i don't know how the specialist will react when i say it only happens at 90 and above.

thanks ... and cheers.

Welcome to NAM!

90 mph? On the track, right?

Could be air coming into the hood vents near the windsheild and vibrating some plastic pieces under there.

IB4TL!

errrr ... sorta!

ack-sure-all-ee ... it can occur at speeds shy of 90 if there is a headwind.

does that help keep me outta trouble?

Yes that's it, you were driving on a posted 70 mph highway into a 20 mph headwind so you estimate it happens around 90 mph.

The windshield wiper or aero kit might be catching air and vibrating; even with all the trouble my car has thrown at me I never had anything like that.
I've never had it over 110 though.

Probably. I have an 05, so I wouldn't be able to say exactly, but sounds like air coming in and rattling some of the plastic dividers in there. Also, is this with the a/c vents on or off? Maybe some air is getting diverted into the a/c system and rattling an on/off valve or something. Try different setting with the a/c if that is it. High speeds are best with windows shut and a/c off, in my experience. On ther track. at speeds above 70 mph.

If you have an '05, you might get better responses in the first-gen forum. Hope you get it fixed.

D'oh. Stupid reading comprehension, or the complete lack thereof. I'll be butting out now.
For what it's worth, my car is smooth like buttah when I have experienced those speeds in a controlled environment.

Haha- No problem. I think I remember some people having this problem on 03s & 04s. . . very fuzzy. . .

If you try a search, just "noise" will pull up about a million threads. . .

Maybe "noise"+"rattling"+"speed"+"dash"+"hood", or some combonation of those. . .

Yea, I searched and saw that many 07 people are having similar but slightly different noises under the same conditions. Strange buzzings and air rufflings.

Out of curiosity, are you on bikeforums.net too?
Let us know how things go with the car.
