Stock Problems/IssuesDiscussions related to warranty related issues and repairs, or other problems with the OEM parts and software for MINI Cooper (R50), Cabrio (R52), and Cooper S (R53) MINIs.
I stopped for gas the other day and as I pulled out I noticed the "Service Engine Light" on and it stayed on. At my next stop I checked the gas cap, but this didn't help. When I got home I plugged in my MINI Code reader and got the error code P2097. According to the pamphlet that came with the reader this is "Post Catalyst Fuel Trim System Too Rich (Bank1)". I plugged in my AutoXray scanner and got the same message, but no more detail. Has any one seen this code and could tell me where to start looking? O2 sensor? Cat? Fuel injector?
Thanks, I'll try the Clear Code ,Battery reset and disconnect for 1/2 hour tonight and see if that corrects the problem. Trying to avoid the trip to the dealer if I can.

good luck, really, but you wont be able to fix it that way. you will have to get the adaptation values reset than do a "quick delete" with the gt1(diagnostic machine) before disconnecting the battery. and the most important thing is the "quick delete", i tried without that and the code came right back.
when i first ran into this code i wasted a full day messing with the car, replaced both o2 sensors and almost punched a hole on the gt1 haha. that was about a year ago, now when i see it, i follow the steps i mentioned and is fixed within an hour.

What exactly is an adaptation value reset and is it something that you can do yourself? Also, can any of the "quick deletes" I've read about in this and other posts be done yourself. I'm looking at one of the vendor ads on the site for a code reader/clearing tool (I forget what make/model it is) so I'm hoping to avoid a trip to the shop. I think mine may have been caused by rookie error. I adopted my mini from a private owner and he never mentioned the need for 91 octane or higher. Was running 89 and in some cases 87 (yikes!) so I'm hoping that's the error cause.

Thanks for any and all help
Can you let me know if you find out anything on the DIY fix for this? Yea I know, tried to tell the girlfriend but she insisted on cheaper gas! Anyway, I have the same code. It did pass emission inspection though.
