Squeeling noise behind instrument cluster

I've developed a squeeling sound behind the dash under certain conditions.

At about 4500 RPM + and roughly 80% + throttle and accelerating, the sound will occur. This has only happened when I'm pushing the Mini fairly hard.

It sounds like it may be a speedo cable or related connection?

Has anyone else had this issue, or something similar?

Otherwise, at 4000 miles, this Mini has been wonderfull!

The only squealing noise I have near the instrument cluster is emanating from the driver when motoring through the twisties.

Sorry. I could not resist. The debil made me do it!

Yes there have been some squeals of surprise from both the driver and passenger, as we have made a number of trips over the Sierra Nevada, and a recent trip from Morrow Bay to Carmel up Ca Rte 1!

But seriously, the squeal behind the dash occurred again on the way into Oakland on 580 last weekend. 3800 rpm, probably 3/4 throttle, 5th gear, 75 mphish...the squeal continued for 20 seconds or so even when off the throttle after the sound started.

Ideas, or similar experirence anyone?

I've had a similar experience. At first thought it too be a pully belt but the noise comes from the drivers side.Never thought of speedo cable.
It happens briefly when I reach 90 mph.

My wife's POS Elantra makes this noise. It usually happens in the same speed range under acceleration, and is temperature dependent (worse when cold than warm). We figured out that it is the speedo servo motor making the noise, as there is no mechanical cable. In your case, I wonder if it might be the tach servo...

Makes perfect sense about a servo motor...i'll try to find some schematics to help understand the issue

Really appreciate the feedback
