dissatisfaction w/ 07 MINI

i bought my new 07 mini in march in MINI RICHMOND. (i had a 03 model before) n' the 2nd day i got my car there was already ticking noise coming out from the engine.. they didn't even know hot to fix the problem! they said it was alright for me to drive. i forced them to fix my car for me n' it took them 2 months to settle down n' make an appointment w/ me.. and THEY FOUND A BROKEN SPRING in the engine* which made the car not going very smoothly.. it ate up some horsepower......... n' it took them 3 weeks to get it fixed.

i was so unhappy and frustrated about it. cuz there was a broken spring in the engine for 2 months n' they didn't even get the problems fixed in the first place. their service was poor. I had to contact mini canada directly. but they are not doing ANYTHING FOR ME.

too bad i live in canada. there's no lemon law. now i don't even feel safe driving the car. it feels weird.
can anyone help me w/ the problem?
is there anything i can do??

What kind of help are you looking for?

You said they fixed the problem. What else did you want them to do?

Running your post through a spelling and grammar check would be great. It's fairly difficult to decipher what exactly you're talking about .

Ticking = Normal, the car is Direct Injection, they all tick, especially when cold.

That appears to be your only issue, you said it was fixed, and traced to a spring (Not aware of any springs in your engine that wouldn't cause catastrophic damage if they failed ). As the previous poster said, i'm unsure what you're asking?

Listen up you lot, the man was only asking a question and giving an opinion, this is supposed to be a friendly forum. Who cares about spelling. Where's your manners. "BigSky" comments like that can get you barred from this site. I think you owe him an apology. EDIT , As you all can see this is his first posting on NAM, what a way to treat a newcomer.

Reading elsewhere in this forum I see that there is another reference to a "broken spring" in the R56 engine. I think it was a part of the timing chain tensioner assembly. This may be an issue that we need to keep an eye on.

I agree, not everyone speaks English as their first language, which may or may not be the case in this instance. I was able to understand the post perfectly. Welcome to NAM kakaa, the vast majority of us here are good people that are willing to share our thoughts and experiences.

Everyone may not always agree and I've only seen a few posts that I would consider to be "flaming" someone else.

In regards to your problem kakaa, it sounds like it was just plain a bad experience for you at your dealers service department. If there is another dealership within your driving range I'd suggest going there the next time you need any sort of service. You could also complain to the management of the dealer, it may not get you anywhere but at least you can get it off your chest. The key with doing that sort of thing is to do it politety, but firm.

Good luck!

Agreed. I'm pretty new here, but I didn't think that was a very good way to treat somebody looking for help. I'm still not sure how and where to post things here, but I would like to think that if I made a mistake I wouldn't get dogpiled on like that!

I'm not wanting to make enemies here, but that was pretty rude.

Kakaa sorry to hear about your problems with the mini and even more sorry about " greeting " here on NAM . There are a few bad apples in every bunch but for the most part you would get a mature response to your problem. it sounds like the issue is solved for now but I would keep a close eye on it . If the dealer is somewhat close to you I would be there for anything no matter how minor, especially if it is engine related. Overall its a good car and you should have a happy relationship with it as do the vast majority of Mini owners. Welcome to NAM .

First, djam43 I had no problem with his post in any way. It was my intention to joke about the previous three posts being so critical, I was not trying to to be derogatory as you apparently took it.

I understand sarcasm is sometimes hard to interpret reading online which is why I use "LOL" to alert people that I'm Joking or Not Serious.

I am very new here and to Minis as well. I have enjoyed the short time I have been here, learned a great deal, and met some great people I hope will become friends...it has been a very friendly site.

I am curious though, I've never seen "EDIT" used in this "friendly" context, what does that mean?

Yes, communication in a text environment can often times lead to misinterpretation of what is trying to be said and how it comes across. The use of LOL or smilies does help a great deal.

Unfortunately I didn't get the joke either. I'm sorry if I misunderstood your post and I'm glad to hear your intent was sarcasm on the other posts, it seems as if it went over the head of most of us.

I think the EDIT in the body of djam43's post is to show where he did edit the post. There is a notation at the end of it that says an addendum was added and he was just pointing out the change.

kakaa,

In no way did I intend to be derogatory or negative regarding your post. If you interpreted it that way you have my sincere apology. I had no problem reading it, or understanding your disappointment. I wouldn't be happy had I gone through that either.

I am new here as well, I can only hope your experience here will be as positive as mine has been. I have learned so much...

Best Wishes

"Edit " is an explanetion to the other members that you have added an afterthought to your original statement.

Lighten up dude. I said the "sentences were too hard to read". AND they are. If you choose to not capitolize sentences and use abbreviations like your texting (and I have no idea if it is true or not) ... Simply put ... the sentences are HARD to read. A bit of courtesy works two ways for those who try to read posts to understand what the OP is saying.

Let's get this thing back on track.
Moderators, I'd like to request removal of some of the last off topic posts.
His English was just fine.

Kakaa, welcome to NAM. I'm sorry your first post is for a problem. Maybe this link will help. It appears there was a little drama in this thread as well, but at least there was some discussion involving ticking noises that you can ask your dealership (or customer service) about:

OK Chows4us,

I hate to go here, but that was unacceptable. Instead of apologizing to kakaa for your rudeness, you come on and try to justify it. Doesn't fly dude. Again, I hate to point this out, but there were grammatical errors in both your posts criticizing kakaa for the same thing! So who are you to jump on somebody for making a mistake or two? To top it off you attacked kakaa again by accusing him of not showing courtesy? Just because he made a couple of grammatical errors? Come on man! Just admit you were wrong and let's move on. You've probably already scared kakaa away from the site!

I didn't try to "justify" anything. I said it was hard to read. Maybe you can follow it but for ME, it was hard to read.

I said nothing about spelling. I was talking about using capitol letters where they belong and abbreviations like in texting.

The OP is, of course, more than welcome to ask anything. And I, having a lot of experience here, might of been able to help ... but it was simply to hard to read. That is the point. It was not meant to be rude in anyway. That is not the intention. It's simply to point out it hard to read. If you don't get it, then you don't get it. Grammer mistakes are one thing. Not being able to quickly read and understand the questions is another.

Now your jumping to conclusions over the intention of what I wrote. I can't help if I can't understand what is being written.

Hi kakaa, Welcome to the NAM, I don't know why specifically you were picked on regarding your thread, as a lot of people on here make spelling and grammar mistakes. There's probably a handful of English majors on this forum, but that's not why we are here. Let me say this is an excellent forum for information, help and advise. I've also found that most people on here are very obliging, I think that reflects in the type of people that own Mini's they really have nothing to proove and that shows in their attitudes.

Anyway regarding your problem even though it seems resolved, I know the dealer you are talking about as I also live in the lower mainland although I've never used them, but I can highly recommend Yaletown Mini. Their service people Alex and the Mgr Graham are top notch, so please don't give up on your Mini and give Yaletown a chance, regards.

Art -

Do you have you bifocals on? We've discussed this before - bifocals on when we read a book or post on NAM. Your eyes aren't what they once were.

Let's make sure you have your corrective eyewear on before we chide the OP for his confusing sentence structure.

Skip

Kakaa -

Love the screen name - I'm sure there is a very interesting story behind it.
