Probably 75% of R56 MCa owners have this check light issue. It is an out of calibration sensor in the emission system. A software update is needed to fix the problem. See your dealer. There is no drivability issue unless the light flashes.

djam - I have read that a lot of MCa owners experience this but I have a MCS auto and have seen very few of these with this issue. Also, on NAM, I have only found only one other car where it happened so quickly. Please correct me if I'm wrong and this problem also occurs with S autos and/or occurs more frequently with brand new cars within the first hour of driving.

Your right, it happens more frequently in the MCa than the MCSa I wasnt reading the post properly, But I still think that its the same problem.(emissions sensor calibration) MINI2 site has some identical cases.

One last question

I have one last question then will drop this issue completely. The invoice I received reflects that the malfunction of the two fuel pumps and fouled spark plugs is directly related to "bad gas" Now I have minimal knowledge of the mini but in all my years of owning cars this has never ever happened before.I have used the same fuel Shell V-Power in my other car without any problems . Is the fuel system in the mini that sensitive? Or was the car running to rich to begin with or perhaps computor related that caused the low fuel pressure? Now, I'm somewhat concerned about what brand of fuel should i put in my car? The Mini dealership that repaired my mini gave me the impression they were doing me a favor by repairing the car as this was not a typical repair under warranty and more of a gesture of goodwill by mini, your suggestions/thoughts are appreciated.

I went with a friend to pick up his MCSA today and we got about 14 miles from the dealer and the SES light came on. He called his MA and the MA notified him that Mini USA released a bulletin a few weeks ago to replace the o2 sensor. The bulletin says the o2 sensor is overly active and will cause the SES light to come on with even the highest quality premium gas. He is bringing his mini in next week to swap the sensor out. MA says it's a quick 5 min swap if that. I think it was related to mini's built in the last 6 weeks b/c I've had my 07 since April 2nd and 7500 miles later i've had not one problem.

Any dealer that even implies a "favor" deserves what's coming to them, and not in a good way. Anything you get as a "favor" they more likely get paid for by the manufacturer (who may care more about goodwill with a customer). We had a Jeep whose brake rotors got replaced every 10K miles without even a tiniest peep by the dealer and we considered that a stellar attitude (other people weren't treated so nice, Jeep got a class-action lawsuit after which every owner got a free brake job).
When we got a "we're not to be messed with" treatment from the first Mini dealer visited, we drove another 30 miles to another who gave us a much better deal on the trade-in.
Also, we're happy to report that they did acknowledge the check engine light issue to be a software glitch and scheduled us for an appointment without any problem. Strangely enough, soon after we made the appointment the light went away by itself.

Since this problem seems to be so common, I wonder if MINI has a problem with contaminating the gas tank during production?

This could very well be the problem ,never thought about it really; I'm going to use just Chevron premium and see how that goes, hopefully no further reoccurances. Right now the car is running great and I'm pleased it is back in my garage. In fact last night, I waxed my baby with zymol and she's looking sweeet!! Thanks to all who responded!!!
