AC gone bad! Thoughts...comments...??

Hello!

I own an 03 cooper and have had no problems till today. The AC was not working and since it is a 300 mile drive to the dealer, I took it to a local BMW shop, not a dealer.

They told me a seal is bad in the compresser, and Mini only sells new compresser's not seals. New one is $800.

The warranty was up on the 28th of April, this year. I belive this is a bit soon for the AC to be going out. I have talked with the dealers closest to me, Seattle and Portland, and so far, there seems to be nothing they can do as I purchased it from Classic Mini. Classic said if I can get it to them, they will take care of it, but that is way to far, and costley to do. I will say that the service person in Portland is looking into what they could do and will call me back.

Give me your thoughts and comments.

If the a/c was not run at all during the winter, it is not unheard of for this to happen.

I feel your pain...

In the past WEEK my AC compressor, condensor, heat exchanger, main battery cable and radio ALL broke at the same time. The cost: $3,500 in repairs, and Winston has less than 100k miles on him.

Sorry, but after I get the car back it's going.

Goodbye MINI world! - it's been great being a part of this motoring adventure, but I need a car that's not going to ask me to pay more in a week on repairs than I do for a full year of ownership!

Cheers - and motor on!

my A/C crapped out last year. the compressor was running but there was
a parasitic leak on the condenser and blew hot air. i had to take it in a
few times for them to find it as the leak was so slow (takes 2months to
leak completely out). repaired under warranty so was free.
