moaning noise..help!

ever since i've had my mini...its an 04 cooper s...theres been a slight moaning/vibrating noise that comes from the front end....it slows down as i slow down and speeds up as i speed up.....the dealer told me i needed a tire rotation to fix it but ive already done that with no result.....im guess maybe it's a motor mount? im not sure and am stuck...any help would be appreciated!

Doubt a motor mount would cause moaning, especially moaning that changes with speed. Since tire rotation didn't help, I'd check wheel bearings.

You got new tires 3 months ago...it may be time for a rotation again, depending on how much driving you do. A good rule is every 6,000 miles, and I put on way more than that in 3 months. I'd rotate them and see what happens.

wow that's odd. the owners manual states that mini does not recommend rotating the tires. what happens when you release the gas and depress the clutch?
.

Did you take the service mgr. for a ride? That would help them to document the sound you are hearing. Next step may be to demand a meeting with the factory zone rep.

We Just brought my wifes and my minis in for service at the dealer, it was her first service , both 05 cooper s. She's had a groaning noise in the front end on corners, slow speeds and in reverse. Talking to Mark in service, he said they didn't find anything wrong, however, there was a bulletin for "low fluid from the factory" . They flushed the transmission fluid(manual trans) and we drove it. At first it was ever so slightly there, but by the time the test drive was over, it was gone. All fixed !
might be worth a shot, It was a really horrible noise.

What tires are you running on your cutie? If Goodyear RS-A runflats cover the wheels, this is a very common noise heard by many out in the Chicagoland area. The cold temps cause the inside of the tire to breakdown causing the moaning noises at slower speeds. This is ESPECIALLY true if your not 100 constant checking your tire pressures.

To BWROOFCHEX,
I just wanted you to know that I read your post about the fluid level, took my Mini Cooper S to the dealer and they fixed it.
Thanks man, for your help and advice. It was spot-on.
I really appreciate it and wanted to let you know.
They also put a new flywheel and clutch in under warranty to resolve a chattering noise.
Yours,
Fixitgarage

In regards to the moaning noise from the Goodyear runflats - I noticed this recently with one of my tires (left front). Didn't notice it until a tire rotation, which means it was probably happening before, but the tire was located at an area that I couldn't hear (rear). Also, now with warm weather, the windows are open and I hear the noise (only at low speed, low tire rotation speed). I noticed that the tire tread along the sidewall (where meets the tread), has some tiny cracks. I assumed it's because the rubber is getting old. Is this unsafe? I'm not far off from needing new tires (am at 30k, and don't expect much more mileage on these).
