Bonnet stripes installation in STL

A couple of questions (well, three actually) about bonnet stripes for y'all:

(a) Can anyone recommend a professional installer in the St. Louis area? (Not sure if I want to attempt an install myself---comments welcome.)

(b) I like the shape and width of the OEM stripes, so I am thinking of getting them from MIGHTYSTRIPES (Matt at mightystripes says their 'standard' stripes are the same as OEM).

(c) It says on the mightystripes web site that the manufacturer "does not recommend" waxing over the stripes. What about Zaino-ing over them?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Mark with Ultrashield did my stripes and did an awesome job. His price was very reasonable as well. Tell him you are a club member and he'll give you a preferred price: http://www.ultrashieldofstl.com/

My checkerboard stripes from Mightystripes worked wonderfully. Don't try to do them yourself, as they require trimming to be correct. Mark and I got them trimmed to exactly match side-to-side. Be sure to mention that you are an STLMINI member for 10% off!
I don't know about Zaino'ing, Brad B may have some advise. When I wax FLASH2, I just skip the stripes and they do fine.

I also have Mightystripes and installed them myself. They are not bad to install, as they are wet applied. While they are OEM width, they are provided long, and are cut to length. The good part about this is that the factory stripes tend to be a tad short, and are only applied to the hood. Mine also go up on the body and die into the grilles near the windshield.

John,

I had Mark install my stripes also. He did a great job. And as long as you are going with a pretty standard color or design, MightyStripes is fine. Unfortunately, I wanted gold & his were way too gaudy & he wouldn't take them back Which reminds me Anyone want a set of gold, sparkly bonnet stripes? Free to a good home

OK, looks like it is Mark from ultrashield for the install! Thanks, Lois.

(Cindy has changed her mind about bonnet stripes---she now thinks they look great, so Blue Meanie is getting a new look )

I didn't do bonnet stripes, but did my own boot stripes (got them from Mighty Stripes.) The only thing I'd say about their standard stripes is they are not the exact same width as OEM, and if you want the contrast pinstripe for S stripes those are separate pieces. I think the difference from OEM is about 1/8 inch, so not a big deal for most people.

Trimming and getting them exactly the way you want them is the tricky part, the wet install was pretty easy. I'd recommend making a template from butcher paper or something like that just to get the edges trimmed correctly, and also to use blue painter's tape to mark your edge on the bonnet/boot and then you can just align to the tape and peel off when you squeegie.

I found out some other tricks about boot stripes after I did mine, might have done them differently as far as how they go at the window edge, but everyone seems to do them a little differently. Makes your car more personalized!

OK, I missed the Happy Hour yesterday, I'm not at the track today, but ... I finally got the bonnet (and boot!) stripes installed by Mark at Ultrashield of St. Louis. Thanks for the advise----Mark did a great job. What a perfectionist.

See you at the Auto Show on June 5!

(There are pics in my Gallery; I couldn't figure out how to link from here...)
