I know there are are older mini owners ahead of me, and I know the subject has been brought up or actually taken into action, but since I am new at the mini family, I was wondering if there was a STL Tail of the dragon trip planned or how many would be interested in going... I have seen it before and I was gonna take my e30 and never went, but I want to go...

 

A group of us usually go to the Dragon in May for MOTD. Mark & I have not firmed up our plans yet but we will be going

What is MOTD and normally around what date do you go? Is this a public trip

 

I'm planning on making the trip. And by "planning," I mean I'd like to go but have made no effort to book anything solid...

It's a "little" (if I remember correctly, around 500 MINIs in 2007) get together at the Dragon the first weekend in May. Next year it runs from April 30 to May 4. The main event location is Fontana Village resort. You can check here for more info.

 

Is there anything i would have to do like sign up, or just show up?

 

Right now you need to be trying to make lodging arrangements. Fontana gets booked up a year in advance, but things change during the year. There are other places around to stay that may have rooms available.

To participate in the dinners and events, you will need to register. You can show up and drive the Dragon without registering, though. Registration opens a month or two before the event.

 

How much does registration cost normally

 

Event registration was around $40. There are other dinners/events that cost extra. And you can fill your T-shirt quota for the year if you want for additional $.

 

Ok, well I have dates lined up to take off so I will be for sure going. I have always wanted to go but this time I am for sure.

If we can get a few minis here in STL to meet up we can all caravan there, that would be kinda fun...

 

There usually is a caravan that goes down from here that includes some mini's from colorado and nebraska. I have stared taking the whole week off and getting there the sunday or monday before the event. You get more time to relax and enjoy the dragon before the "chaos" hits. Hopefully that gives you an idea, Doug (Zinful) is part of the caravan that goes, so he would be the best person to ask about that.

 

Can we get t-shirts through any of you who are going or are they available online? I'm sure I can't make it there, but have cool mini-shirt, me want.

Seeing that I got new camping stuff for Xmas, I'll think I'll plan to camp, too! That actually sounds pretty fun.

 

We ended up getting rooms in Townsend, TN on the otherside of GSMNP. It will make for long drives to visit the Dragon The more to motor...
