San Diego BMWCCA Autocross
November 4th

LOCATION: Qualcomm West Lot (San Diego)

6:30 AM gates open
7:00 AM tech opens
7:00 AM registration opens with priority to BMW and MINI owners

8:20 AM tech closes

SD BMWCCA events have a history of filling up early. Plan on arriving before the 7 AM registration formally opens to get a number at the gate.

You must be a BMWCCA member ($40 and totally worth it for the Roundel magazine and the chapter newsletters)

Cost for one day is $45 per day.

CLASSING: the San Diego chapter has one MINI COOPER class, so all the MINIs are thrown into the mix against each other (supercharger or not).

List of those planning on competing
  1. Joe - curv872
  2. Jacques - socal_mini (defending the Fijian Warclub trophy)
  3. Dave
  4. Chip - chipgrafx
  5. Joe - jackarat
  6. Matt - camelpilot
  7. Jason - xbook
  8. Alan (friend of Leslie923)
NON BMWCCA PRIZES

Fastest MINI on street tires - Fijian Warclub (Travelling Trophy, like the Stanley Cup. The winner only retains the trophy as long as they hold the title of Fastest MINI on street tires at the most recent L.A. or San Diego BMWCCA Autocross)

NOTE: two weeks before this event is the October 22nd | Hollywood Park BMWCCA Autocross

Sadly Dave,

I won't be making this one... I am going back east for a lecture named after my Dad and will be looking at buying some land on 11/4.

I love the way San Diego BMWCCA puts on their autocross. But will have to skip this one.

Have a great time,

- Charlie

Fyi on the Warclub (for anyone who is out to get it). There are 2 rules:

1. You need to be on REAL Street Tires. i.e. The ones you use on your car everyday - as opposed to what would qualify as a "street" tire in some National series. Specifically, anything with 200 or higher treadwear will work for you.

2. You need to have driven to the track on them.

According to Discount Tire Direct the treadwear on the 615's is 200, so if you drive to the event on them, then I think that would meet both qualifications.

Also, FWIW, I used my RT-615s as my daily driver tires for a few months with no problems.

You think they'll be better than the SPT's I'm on now?

i think I'm gonna sell my set-up as is off my car and instal a new set of TD pro race1.2's - I've liked them for a while... but money??? Also I didn't want to swap tires an have two sets just for Auto X - since I'm only going to do that a few times a year - I rather have something that works well for both... I'm not concerned with having the overall fastest time - I'm happy just doing my thing as is...

plus I like the Paddle!!! ha-ha.

let me know your thoughts.... any input is welcomed.

Update I got by e-mail this morning from Gordon (safety steward at San Diego BMWCCA). From the looks of it a couple of other MINI owners got the notification too.

Quote: There are a few changes for the November 4th autocross that we wanted you to be aware of.

The most important is that you need to have a Snell 2000 or 2005 helmet. The Snell 1995 helmets are no longer allowed at our driving events. The Snell certification is good for 10 years plus a 1 year grace period. The time expired in October. If you need a new helmet, JMC Motorsports has SA helmets, you can also get a motorcycle helmet and any of the shops in town.

At the last autocross we changed the run groups to speed things up. It was good because we were able to run 110 cars, it was bad because the work sessions were way too long. We are going back to the old run order so the work sessions will be more reasonable but we will do the worker change while the course is running to speed things up. We plan to run 90 cars, with 10 slots for X cars.

Hope to see you there. If you have questions about the event, please ask the Autocross event coordinators, Gordon Anderson - or Matthew Kogan.

Likely so...

I should have added "by 0.10 seconds, no less" in my original post...
