exhaust! decisions decisions

i recently picked up an '04 cooper s and want to put a nice exhaust system on her....the theme i want is classy meaning no cheap accessories....really really want a supersprint system but way overpriced...anybody know of a good system that has a nice low growl and a rich mellow sound?..let me know!

oh, and anybody know of a good place in oc that can paint the plastic fenders to match the car? thanks!

I think the new webb exhaust system will be nice. You might wanna wait for that. I think cfmini will be having it on his car??

As far as painting your fenders, I would suggest central coast coopers in ventura. Great place and provide a great enviornment for you and your mini . talk with scott you woun't be disappointed

Depending on where in OC you're at, you might want to check out Kenny's Muffler in Cypress.

Milltek has been the bread and butter for a lot of people that want performance, less noise, good fit and finish.

My favorite sound is the Miglia on page 4, but a little pricey to import here.

I don't think the Magna flow fits your requirements. It is loud.

Borla STREET or even RACE are great quality (yes the race is louder)
You can insert core baffles if it is to loud in either.

Go out and listen REAL WORLD.

I have had the Borla street, Milltek and the prototype Webb

The Borla and Milltek are very nice..... i am looking for the Webb to be finished...if the volume can come down to a tolerable level when the valve is closed I will put that on.

If youcan make it to the Dragon you will hear about everything there

Uh . . . he's from Orange County, California. Not a whole lot of SoCal people heading out that way.

Best bet for hooking up with MINIacs from across the Southwest is AMVIV.

I put the Borla Sport on my 04 Mini S. The fit & finish are first class. Oh.. and the sound is a nice deep growl.

There was a guy from Australlia there last year. You can fly in sans car and hook up.

If you are going to AMVIV III, wait and listen to all the exhaust sounds, then pick the one you like.

I am a Borla man myself. Love the sound!

I like my Milltek but the WMS when i had it on my car added about 10-12 whp above the Milltek on the dyno...... I had to take it off because I could not stand the noise and the drone...... I'm keeping my fingers crosed because i want it on for the "Dragon."

Both the Milltek and Borla are very nice.... can't go wrong with either

I recently bought the Milltek Quickfit for my 2002. Have had it a month in the box waiting for warmer weather and installed it yesterday. Quite a ways into the install it became apparent that I was probably sent the model for the 2004 and newer MCS rather than my older 2002. The mounting points for the split end of the system are only 1/2 right. Unfortunately, I've lost my return rights since I sat on it for so long. I also couldn't resist seeing it in action so I completed the installation minus the outer hangers. Sounds and looks great.

So, here's the deal. I will likely talk to OutMotoring.com this coming week and move ahead to get the right system ordered for my 2002. Anyone interested in a very low mileage used Milltek system for say 10% off Outmotoring's current price less tax? I'm hoping to find someone local to avoid having to ship it. May be two weeks and 200 miles on it before it would be ready to go.

If no takers, I'll probably customize new hangers and keep it.

Milltek

Tobfree
Just weld on new hanger if I were you. Very simple solution and that's what milltek does anyway, to relocate the hanger

Yes, the hangers didn't bother me and a fix is reasonably easy. The other issue is that the newer model turns up before the Y and just bumps into the frame where the suspension comes in from the wheels (I don't know the correct part term). Pictures of the system, probably the older model, shows the upturn immediately after the Y and flanged connection. It currently touches and creates a drone at certain speeds. If I go the route of hanger adjustment, I'll also space down the main pipe support plate 1/4" or so and drop the rear 1/2". Then all will be well.

The flange and Y of the older model system isn't as clean as the newer which I have. The Y is very straight and clean. I really can't decide because I love the sound and added couple horses with or without drone. I had also installed the Alta CAI with hose last week and I'm still testing how far down the road I'll go before I let off.

Here's a couple pics. The first two are the system I installed. The last one is from Outmotoring's website photo of the Milltek.

Note the configuration of the Y. The last photo is what I believe to be the system for the 2002-2003 MCS and it turns up farther back to clear the frame. Kinda messy with twisted turns.

Milltek

A quick update: Outmotoring is working to have the correct hanger kit sent out to me as I probably received the wrong one. Therefore, I am moving ahead to get the system I have modified slightly and do not plan on selling it as I had indicated above. Some minor cutting and welding help from a fellow NEOhio motorer and I'll be in business.

Go for the Milltek, it sounds fabulous! That and an Alta CAI and my MPG meter is rising. Well, at least when I'm not roaring onto the x-way. Yes, it also develops a few more HP.
