One Ball

For those of you in SoCal on a budget and can't buy a $500-$700 exhaust system at the drop of a Lawyer or Exec's dime. I have a temp solution for you. (Nothing new)
Steve's Auto Clinic (16205 Nordhoff St N. Hills) is doing what they call a "One Ball." As you know the Mini "S" has an exhaust system with a matching rear resonator and muffler. The gases have to pass though both of them before exiting the tips. Steve's will remove the rear resonator (sort of semi castration of the system hence "One ball" ) by re-routing the gases thru the muffler only giving a more free flowing exhaust, which is about as good as most of the aftermarket exhaust out there. (He say's)
I've seen it done in just over an hour (cutting and welding involved) and there is a sound improvement as well. This isn't his original idea but he does it like he invented it. He will weld the system together to keep the original look. It cost about $175 to do and you get the performance of some of those so called hi-end aftermarket systems.

Just lookin out for my "financially challenged" peeps!

Does anyone in SoCal know if Steves is still doing the One Ball for $175?? With the recent posts of getting it down for around $100 or less, just wondering if anyone has done anything recently with Steves.

Thanks

Richard

I was at Steve's on this week and he quoted me $175 to get the One Ball. I'm planning to do this mod and I think it should be relatively easy to get it done for less than the $175 at most muffler shops. Steve doesn't do the mod, the muffler shop next to him does it.

Thanks for the info. I'm looking to have this done as well. Maybe the 3 of us can have it done at the same shop. LOL.

I called Steve's to check it out. ( a few weeks ago) I was kinda shocked at the $175 since everyone else said it cost them $100 < * to get it done at a muffler shop. He said he had one all done and would just do the swap.

I didn't do it since:

1) My car is 3 months old and I'd rather have it done to my existing system which is practicly brand new.

2) If I was going to spend $175, I'd rather just spend the extra money and get a whole new exhaust.

I am sure Steve is a great guy and I am probably missing something, but that just seemed a little too much for what's involved.

Thanks for the info.
I see this place often because we fuel up across the street.
Most of the time it's late and they are closed.
I'll have to make point to stop buy during day time.

noticed you did have the right one removed. Any understeer problems as listed in the first part of this thread? Someone stated he had both cans stay on the car for weight purposses in regards to steering.

No more understeer than normal,I think the big plus is the loss of weight
20+lbs

For anybody in the OC area or willing to drive to OC (Placentia/Fullerton/Anaheim area), the custom hotrod shop that I'm subleasing from does some MINI work, and they've done One *****--they are going to do mine soon. I could probably get a group deal going one weekend if there are others that want to do it and not spend $100+ for it.
