Please read the last post to this thread posted by DiD regarding the NAM guidelines relative to Street Racing discussion. Street racing and/or agressive driving discussion that clearly breaks local laws and puts others in danger will not be tolerated on the site.

- Mark

The village coffie meet had a good turn out, but the guy driving the M7 mini drove a bit past his abilities and kissed the side of a mountain on Tuna Cyn Road. Here is a thread about it on the subaru boards.

here is a quote from that board

"This is the vehicle that crashed into the barrier which saved the driver's life. However, he was too pissed to see that, he was only upset about his car. If the barrier was not there, he would have landed in a raveen."

Whoops. Hope everything/everyone is ok. How'd the tubular control arms hold up?

Looking at the missing scoop and grill and wondering if this is a "before" or an "after" picture?

Hate to see a MINI get crunched . . . .

another quote from over there for those to lazy to go read

"On Tuna, we had a mishap. A hot headed driver of his turbo'd Mini (also injecting a staged nitrous system) complete with all out suspension set up including A-arms et al, decided he had something to prove, and tried to race the STi up front. The guy in the STi pulled off and let him pass, shortly after, the mini side swiped a wall out of a turn. He was fine, aside from his pride. He blamed it on a front blow out, funny, cause the front tire was totally inflated, and the rear was semi deflated since the Volk rim was bent REAL bad. He messed up his suspension, both his Volks on the left sied, some body damage, and the drive to the wheels was broken. It was only a matter of time with this guy. (he spun at the last run )"

Peter doesn't like to run bonnet accessories (grill, scoop) as they add weight. Speaking of added weight, I wonder if his rear wing added too much downforce in the back and caused understeer - hence the crash? Even the laws of physics can't be defied...

Seriously - I hope Peter is OK; the MINI can be fixed/repaired, I know all about that

It was not his front tire, but front Tie-Rod that broke.

From the NASIOC thread it sounds like he's fine.

Clearly the solution to this problem is _more_ downforce. I expect we'll see a larger M7 spoiler soon.

Tuna Cyn claims another victim..(this time just his VOLKs and his pride) it could have been alot worse on THAT road.
I know alot of people have been doing this run recently..so let's keep our cool and not get anyone killed please.

I hate to diffuse this thread with facts but here they are. Car is fine had some minor suspension breakage which was all repareable at home. No body damage, no human damage. A stock tie rod end gave up under pressure as the plastic, yes i said plastic end pulled out. You all might want to check yours .It was not a case of driver error as was reported but a weak link so to speak in the suspension system. The good news was that it has shown that aftermarket pieces are certainly warrented in this area if you are going be to driving hard.I think he has already started looking into coming out with a superior replacment piece as we speak. Those are the facts .

You can say that again  One other good thing learned was that the tubular control arms are built REALLY well. They bent as would be expected in that type of impact but there was no broken welds etc. Very encouraging as the only way to know for sure was to go thru a situation such as this. I will definatly be keeping them on my short list of things to get.

ahhh the tie rod ends is it? wonder is that was just a fluke or the result of the abuse he puts his car thru.
well maybe this will prompt Peter to come up with a better solution (no doubt he's workin on it as we speak)
Gotta be well equiped to drive that hard. There is not much room for error on some of those canyon roads..we need all the help we can get.

Sorry to see Peter's MINI in that condition. But I'd hate to see what that mountain looks like. M7 MINI doesn't look that bad from what I can see. M7= Mountain Killer.

More from teh NABISCO:
I was the guy in the STI....I don't know what That Guy in the Mini was trying to prove; But he got what he deserved !

As we waited for Traffic to clear to go down Tuna Cyn. he was bragging that his Mini was Faster than the STI, And He would be counting the seconds that he would wait at the bottom of Tuna for me to catch up.

Well as it turned out I was the one at bottom of Tuna Cyn. first waiting for him.

I am glad that he was ok.

I go on Cyn Runs to have a little fun...I'm not there to prove anything to anyone.

If I wanted to race I would take it to the track....after that guy fixes up his Mini I would be more than happy to meet him at Willow Springs...Loser pays track time
This brings Dave's "Do you feel safe on group drives?" thread to mind.

Side note: "Faster than the STi" - - that's a good one!

Wow ,Iguess that is easy to believe, though.Cause,Saturday Masaki,Bob,Peter, and myself Did Angeles Crest Hwy. 3"S,s" and my non "S".....Those guys were pack up ahead of me and 2 croch rockets,I laid back because of all the pea pebbles being thrown. Then right in front of me a bike went down. He was leaning way left, he touched the back brake and hysided. The bike went tumbling, driver ejected. He was rolling along the top oft he guard rail like a rag doll, hiting the wood posts.I callled it in on my cell. Ambulance came and took him away. I'm sure he had some sore if not broken ribs. The 3 came back looking for me and we continued. I was kinda cautious from then on. But not those guys. They just continued to haul ***! Peter had no fear that day. I hope this Sunday thing will slow him down on the public roads and do the cool stuff on the racetrack. Mike and his Mini"Putt",SCMM

Hi guy's.....

thank's for all the good words I do appreciate it....

So what did happen, let's start with why the car broke loose, as maxmini stated the tie rod blew out and literally
trew me in to the barrier with no chance to recover. Yes I did think I had a blow out, as it made sense for how the
car behaved pulling to the left in a left hand corner that would usually not happen.

I am also sorry that I embarraced you (white STI) the reallity is that I past you fair and square in a corner where
your front end washed out to the right and after that I walked away from you like you where standing still......

PS. If you where there you would have realized that I was not pissed over the car being broken at all
as a matter of fact, I was pretty relaxed about the whole thing as I knew it could be fixed very easily
and as we speak the car is almost together. for more fun
