Long Beach MINI Poker Rally
LBM 2004 Rally
Okay, here are my contributions to this thread . . .
When I got there, I got to park behind this cool videographer's ride- DrDrumanBass's awesomely modded DS MCS

My favorite colors- Hyper, Indi, & Electric Blues!

A few with attitude . . .

Some wicked-looking vinyl graphics demanding attention!

All in all, it was an okay day. The run wasn't as fun as last year but I did get to meet some great MINIacs. (DiD, DrDrumanBass, 70sPop, and numerous others) It looked like SoCal's MINI Community was pretty well represented- TMM, SCMM, NAM, etc.
Hope y'all met some new friends too.

Sorry I missed it. I was working in the garage all day.
DID, I hope you don't mind but I swiped the two classic Mini photos and reposted them on MiniMania's forum so that their respective owners can see them (they don't frequent this board.) I gave you credit for the photos but if it is a problem I will remove them. Great photographs by the way. I wish I had the ability to take photos like that! I did, however, purchase a book on photographing automobiles so I am going to start trying.

Nice pix DiD!! The video turned out really good. I'm gonna do some work on it, and hopefully have it posted by the end of the week on the Long Beach Poker Rally website. Congrats to Jack Oliver with his classic Mini on winning the VacuCam 1B I donated and the others, who unfortunately I didn't get to see--who won the Malibu Canyon DVD's.
Kinda funny, cause I asked Jack if his Classic had a cigarette lighter plug, and he's like--"uhm no, but I can wire an accessory jack in there, or I might use it on my other car--which is a race car."
Brian and Amanda--if you're out there, I'm sorry I didn't get the guy in the dark silver MCS who cut you off---I had my camera pointed at the cars behind me when it happened.
Krassanova- "The rally was great, I can't wait to buy a copy of the DVD. Richard buzzed past me a few times, so I may even be on it. "
Which car were you in??? I was looking all over for people from NAM and MINI2 but it's hard to know what people look like when you've never seen them before.
As for buying a copy---Hmmm, I'll see what Long Beach MINI wants to do since I'm kinda working with them on this. It wasn't something I had planned to do--but either way I can make it available. A web version which won't look half as good as the full rez version should be available by the end of the week--I hope!
drdrumanbass
DiD showed up after we got back from the rally and were eating lunch. I should have introduced you, as we were hanging out for awhile--I didn't realize you two hadn't met. Sorry!
It was a great day! Great seeing Toshi, Jirawan, and OMG, Matthew, you lucky lucky man (he won the iPod) with the best hand!

Hey BlacknBlue, in your 3rd pic, the silk green mini below the lightpole with the flag is mine! Anyhow, you guys are right, LB mini really knows how to entertain! I especially liked the route this year, and how we were kept entertained with baskeball and spin the wheel, and watching graphics being put in a mini. I was the one who answered the question about the 1965 movie, "The Sound of Music". Got another t-shirt for it, which was nice.
I really wanted a chair, but it's ok, I'll live.
I suspect the rain kept people away, because I could have sworn that there were more people last year. Anyhow, I certainly had fun

Rick-Anderson: that's not a problem at all. I'm glad you liked the photos.
drdrumanbass: I wished we would have met up too. I made a point to try to find you. I saw you a couple of times when I was talking to others, but when I was roaming around I could never find you. I'm sure there will be another event we get out to.

Oh you saw that too---couldn't believe it--he didn't have plates yet---I wonder if he was even past break in. Yep, I got you a bunch of times--I remember your car. Hmm, I'm going to have to go back through my footage and make sure I include you in the web version. LOL.
I just about finished the web version edit, the day was condensed down to about 1 minute 40 seconds--I was so jazzed on it that I ended up going to bed at 5:30AM this morning..

Nice Pics...
I went with my son and had a great time. Good food, fun driving (a little too short in my opinion
)and cool prizes. Octane, the camera setup is very cool. Might be one in my future
! Dr. Drumanbass, cool car. Thanks for squeezing my car into one of your photos. (MC40 with the numbers in the side windows). Very nice people all in all. My son couldn't stop talking about it all the way home.

Special thanks to LB Mini. I took a picture of my cards...I was one away from the prize, and picked up the Ace on the final stop. Also, wanted to prove that I got a pair of twos like I called a few days prior to the event.
Looking forward to next year. Happy motoring!

Let us know when the web version is ready, I can't believe you worked on it all night! I waited till I was on the clock to start posting photos.
yeah was a fun event. The route was not as long nor exciting as last year though. :( It was lots of fun in the beginning when 50+ Minis were stacked waiting to turn left into the parking structure, pit stop 1. Got a little crazy after that though.... we drive like lunatics, no??
Ended up with a pair of Aces.
I didnt realise NAM people were there or I would have said Hi, sorry. But I did escort a dark silver MINI Northbound on the 405 on the way home, from reading these posts I'm guessing it was drdrumnbass, has he got a white tiger dangling in the wind??

Thanks for posting those pics! I didn't get any stills from the day, so it's nice to see me in some (err, a lot) of them.
Looking back at the video, my camera was pointing back at you when that guy was smoking his tires---so all you can see is a wisp of smoke drifting back towards you. Crazy.
re: Video
yeah, I was kinda crazy or something. I was completely exhausted last night, but somehow, as I began sifting through the footage, my energy came back. LOL, I took out the trash at 3:30 AM this morning, and saw that my newspaper boy already delivered todays paper.

Yeah, I think I signed up on thursday??? I can't recall. I'm not sure how the numbering system works, but I saw a few registration numbers with three digits...and there weren't even close to a thousand Minis there.
It seems that I captured quite a few NAM members yesterday...very cool. If I caught you on the road, you must have been hauling @$$, as everyone around me was definately in "the fast group". I was in the "I wanna be sure I get a good parking spot when I get back" group.
By the way, if you caught my reaction from that guy's burn out, it was probably pretty funny.
