2nd Annual MINI BBQ/Scavenger Hunt
This is it! The follow-up to last years event that provided lots of fun and close competition. Don't get left out this year. Plan to test your brain and exercise your right foot.

Bring your maps and co-drivers! The second installment of the MINI BBQ/Scavenger Hunt is sure to test the smartest and the most direction-worthy MINI driver out there. Be sure to bring your patience, buddies and some cash - as you'll need at least all these to complete your tasks and end up on top. This will be a fun event starting with a BBQ lunch (bring your food for the grill) and then proceed to the "almost all day" scavenger hunt. We'll meet up afterwards for appetizers/dinner and go over the results and hand out the award! Things you might need: Full tank Co-driver MAP/s Cash Driver's License Clipboard Patience Cell phone 11:00 - The BBQ will start. Bring your food to grill. 1:00ish - Depending on the number who attend, you'll receive your Scavenger Hunt Handout and get an overview of the event and get started! Please plan for this to take almost all day. Last year I think we were finished around 6pm. I expect the same this year. We'll all meet up at the end and go over scores and hand out the award for the winner!

Boy you guys are antsy, aren't you! lol
Unfortunately I left the notebook with the results at home - doh!
It was a great time! I think everyone had a blast. Including Charlie and Stacey (who didn't win, but talked a lot of smack) and Jimmy and his cousin (both out of state - he's from ND and she's from FL!!) even though they logged the most miles.
I'll post results and the clues people had tonight or tomorrow - sorry for the delay.

Here's what I posted to the Yahoo! Group
A big thank you to everyone who showed up!
There were quite a few cars at the BBQ and the charcoal was nice and
hot. Unfortunately, my wife Tracy needed the car in the morning, so
she dropped me off while I got the charcoal going. While our MINI was
out and about, I unfortunately saw two MINIs come into the lot and
then leave, thinking it was a different lot. I'm sorry about that!
Next year I'll have balloons or signs up, I promise!
Thanks to everyone who brought snacks/dessert. Those were good! Rob
brought some cool Mini brochures that he snagged from eBay - very
cool reads, and I brought some convertable brochures left over from
the launch party.
Some people bolted before the scavenger hunt,(thanks for coming to
part of the day!) but I think almost everyone got to see Linda's son
Gus' new ride, a '50's era (I think that's right...)Chevrolet pickup.
What a cool ride that was, complete with an air horn.
There weren't any big food mishaps. Nothing was burnt and no big
fires. There was one mix-up, as I put on my brat and then forgot
about it. When I remembered, I went and grabbed the fattest one on
the grill - it's been on there the longest, so it seems logical.
Turns out it was Paul's brat that I grabbed. Since I had already
dressed it up with mustard, he wasn't about to get it back.
I explained the rules to everyone and answered some questions. There
was another clue that was added at the last minute, so I explained
that to everyone and told them to meet up at our house for the clue
to finish. We then made our way to the lot to take pics of all the
cool MINIs (mine was the only dirty one....).
The actual hunt got started about 1pm, with a new start grid. I
really enjoyed this: Everyone lined up around the outside of the
parking lot and I stood at the stop sign and handed the clues out to
each MINI as they started. Made a great visual!
Charlie wins for the biggest burnout and most smoke at the start!
Jimmy did a smaller version of Charlie's start in his MC.
Tracy and I talked with the Mahaney's for a bit and then headed home
to await the teams' arrival.....
**I'll post the rest tomorrow, along with the results (I forgot them at home this morning!!)**

Lost and found
Amazing enough, the cleanup afterwards was rather painless. I'm sure our neighbors laughed when they saw the amount of bottles and cans we had out for recycling this morning!
There was only one casualty of the evening - a cooler got left behind. Take a look around your place and if you think you're missing one, let me know and we'll arrange for pick-up/delivery.

Part II
Tracy and I cleaned up our place a bit and awaited the arrival of the teams. Tracy had this great idea of using her new favorite PS2 game, Karaoke Revolutions as the final clue! Each team had to appoint one person to sing a song from the two discs available and they had to receive a gold medal. If they didn't receive a gold medal, they had to sing again until they did! Pure genius!!
The rest of the scoring was broken down like this:
10 pts for each correct clue
Bonus pts for finish order
Bonus pts for finish time
Originally we were going to add the whole karaoke score to their scavenger hunt score, but that was too dependant on the karaoke and the song scores varied, so we just awarded 10 points for a gold medal and 15 points for a platinum medal.
Teams arrived relatively close to each other, unlike last year where the teams were spread out over several hours. This gave everyone a nice chance to talk about their strategies and how they went about gathering all their clues. I don't think everyone was pulled over - I forgot to check their envelopes with licenses in it. Someone did drive on a sidewalk though trying to get to a clue!
Someone made a beer run, more people sang and we brought out our cat for a bit, but he was scared, so he went back under the bed. Things went pretty well overall. I didn't make a trophy this year, instead the winners received a $5 gift certificate to McDonalds and their choice of a pair of Optic Nerve sunglasses.
I attached the rules and clues for you to look at, to see what they had to go through.
I can't wait until next year!
