A Poll on Major MINI problems?

A suggestion.

Since there is a lot of new ppl, it seems, with a lot of new questions ... and threads on problems, reliability issues, etc.

I would suggest running a poll to REALLY see if all the major problems effect what percentage of the community.

In other words, by asking if you have experienced such and such problem (all major problems) in one poll, you can get a snapshot and have the data in one place. Just asking, for example, in the Cold start Thread, doesnt tell you about the other issues.

In this way, at one glance, everyone can see exactly now much a problem, for example, the rust under the doorsills, really is ... or isn't

Just a suggestion.

My gas pedal seems to always want to be at full throttle, but I'm not sure if that is a problem or not. ..

Data sets all aside, I would like to think my new Mini will be the exception to all of those problems. So far, the only problem I have is the reverse gear being difficult to get into at times.

I just turned 3,000 miles and have only had the car 10 weeks. My biggest problem will be using-up my warranty long before 4 years are up.

If you can put together a list of the items you would like to include in the poll and which forum you would like me to place the poll I'll get it in place. Thanks!

Mark

We have that problem on our MC, too. I think its a safety thing so you don't throw it into reverse on the highway.

A poll would be nice. There seems to be a lot threads asking how many people have this or that problem.

Mark, I know theres a poll on mushrooming but that has way too much detail for a general problem list. Here are my suggestions. I probably missed something. I'm sure people can add/subtract/modify the list but its a start

Thank you

Major Issues

Have you ever:
  1. encountered the "Cold Start" problem (i.e., takes 2 or more tries to start the engine when the engine is cold)?
  2. seen any rust under the rubber on either door seals?
  3. have any kind of mushrooming on either front shock tower?
  4. had your windshield crack (i.e, stress crack, not from a rock)?
  5. had your cooling fan keep running (with the engine off) although the car had already cooled off?
  6. had to have your clutch replaced under warranty?
  7. had a wiring harness issue?
  8. blown a head gasket?
  9. had your transmission replaced?
  10. had an engine fire?
  11. blown your engine?
  12. experienced Yo Yo?
  13. had your car go into limp mode (dangerous on the highway)?
Minor Issues

Have you ever:
  1. had your battery die within 2 years of ownership?
  2. had the DSC and flat tire light on (and go off) for no apparant reason ?
  3. had your power steering fail?
  4. had your cooling fan keep running (with the engine off) although the car had already cooled off?
  5. had problems with the door mechanisms?
  6. had fluid leaks from the engine mounts?
  7. encountered worn convertable tops that needed to be replaced?
  8. Thrown a code (other than a loose gas cap) on a car with minimal modifications (i.e, no TC, no headers, no TB, etc.)

I have had number 2 & 6 on the Minor issue list only. Guess I am lucky, except my passenger seat's heater is on all the time right now. Talk about a hot seat!

I didn't see window motor on there. Seems like a common problem.

This thread https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...highlight=rust

any one find any rust under their gasket on either the passanger or driver side its next to the sill plate

is a perfect example of why this poll should exist

What about the Harmon Kardon hissing issues when cold? Thought I read it was due to cold solder joints...

Replaced flywheels on an 03 and 06 MCS.
Driver's door window motor-03
Replace Xenon headlamp - 03
Windshields seem to get small pits really fast.

Whoa ... people, please don't list your complaints here. This is a request to Mark F to set up a poll This is NOT the poll itself.

It would be nice to have a poll about Mini Problems... to see if other owners have the same issues.
