Proposal for new Marketplace forums

A feature which I think comes in handy on some of the other (non-mini) car sites Im on is to have a sub section of the 'marketplace' that is only for selling cars. If you are in the market for a mini, sifting though all of the marketplace listings must be quite a chore. A sub-section that is a 'for sale: cars only' would not only help out those looking for a mini, but also for those selling...

This is something I've heard requested from time to time. I'll post to the Marketplace forum to gather feedback in this thread on a proposed new categories. I would propose the following Marketplace forums:

- MINIs and Minis for sale
- Wheels and Tires
- All other MINI parts

Thoughts?

Mark

Yes, please! The three-part suggestion would be much easier on the eyes and get members' offerings to market more efficiently. I vote a big YES for this suggestion!

I agree with the idea if not the categories.
I think maybe something like this.

Cars
Body/Interior parts
Engine/Exhaust/Performance parts
Wheels/Tires/Suspension parts
Collectibles

Either way having sections is a good way to go IMHO.

I agree with bumble78. Anything that would seperate things out so you can find just what you are looking for.

I agree with parts wheels cars, too many seperations and you have forums that never get used and stuff posted in the wrong forums....

Great idea! I vote for the simpler "cars, wheels (and tires) and other" division.

Too many categories and we have to ask ourselves "now which one do I look in for X?" and if I don't find it there I search other related areas wondering if it was posted there instead....I'd rather just search one open forum.

Please use the KISS principle.

I would have to say this is a very bad idea. The marketplace doesn't get that many new ads each day, maybe one page full at most. Breaking it up into separate sub-forums will make it much more difficult to see all the new posts quickly. This is a big downside. The upside of scanning through less ads is not as important.

NAM already has way too many forums for the amount of traffic it has. There's less than 1000 people at any one time and they're broken up int 70-100 forums on this site. I would suggest shrinking the number of forums instead of expanding them.

If y'all are bent on breaking marketplace up, I'll offer two suggestions:
- have a latest posts page where all new marketplace ads are listed for easy access.
- have two marketplace forums: cars and parts. People looking for parts are usually not looking for a whole car.

That being said, Marketplace is really thriving and doesn't need 'fixing'. Also, consider that breaking it up will mean less viewers for each ad. Even though we're not always in the market for everything, isn't it fun to look? And when a great deal comes up, we even become buyers.

At the end of the day NAM really needs a classifieds system with categories. Multiple sub-forums is not the answer. My vote is to leave it alone.

Go for the three.... If you're just scanning to see, then I can see wanting to have them in one. But if you're really looking to buy parts, I don't want to look at a bunch of adds for S-Lites and runflats!

Maybe another section for "feedback". Each person can have their own thread and whenver they do a deal the other person can post on their thread.

I'm for the three category idea, but you run into a problem with things like the DaMini shirts... so i think:

Cars
Parts
Wheels/Tires
Collectibles

Is it possible to have the best of both worlds and just have it run as a filter or something, that you can see by these categories or see "All" if you wish? While we're on the subject, would be nice if everyone updated their posts when the items were sold...

I dig:
Cars
Wheels and Tires
Parts
Miscellaneous

The first three [alone] don't accomodate the full spectrum, including collectibles and such.

This will be a great change from a friendliness perspective!

I like that, but would also consider a Want To Buy section.

I would like a section to be considered for selling anything. Maybe that would be the "Other" or "Misc" area.

Thanks

How about having market postings automatically disappear after a set period, say 15 days or 30 days?

I personally don't like it when people sell iPods and Xboxes and other random crap on here, and I wish there was a rule against it. Same with non-MINI (or Mini) cars.

Love it!

I dont care what the categories are called.. as long as they're there. I've always found it somewhat troublesome to sift through all the threads to look for something specific.
