offensive anyone?
offensive anyone?
This list generally does a good job of filtering out offensive statements and terms - that said I find it suprising that the term "WTF?" has slipped by. I am refering to the thread titled "Milky Oil - WTF". There is nothing in the thread that is offensive.
To me the acid test is: Would I want my 8 year old reading over my shoulder to ask what it meant?

Have fun trying to shelter your child for the rest of his life if you can't explain this one.Use the word fudge and use your NAM time for yourself.

Then my question is should that be evryone's acid test?
I am not meaning to be critical with that but it causes me to wonder.
As an analogy to your questons about the use of "WTF", I will say I am generally more tolerant of these kinds of things than most - but..... I have become more and more sensitive to the use of bleeps on broadcast television or radio. It seems that now anything can be said at any time or anywhere in broadcast media now as long as it is bleeped out. But really who doesn't know what is really being said. So the bleep then serves no purpose does it?
I can certainly make free judgment about what I would let children watch but the over-use of bleeping just seems silly. Either don't bleep or don't allow that language. That's my thoughts on that.
The same logic would seem to apply here. I have seen much worse than WTF and it really does not bother me at all. But when someone types in a post "******, I really do know what it means so the stars or asterisks or whatever are just silly.
OK, in reality I realize that both the bleeps and the stars/asterisks are a convention of some kind a but I am just saying that from a logical perspective it is silly.

But then, I don't care WTF your 8 year old reads. That would seem to be your responsibility.

It's funny 'cause it's true.

Clearly first signs of mercury poisioning. Lay off the squid for a while.
Refrain of: I won't back down... playing in the background.
Okay I consulted with my editor - her take: inappropriate and in poor taste for the title of a thread - okay if contained within a message. A simple question mark should suffice. To me she said: You are in danger of becoming a fuddy duddy. If you need something to do - here I've prepared a list

Your eight year old is asking about the 10,000 acronyms on NAM. Good Grief, keep em out of the performance section before they spot LSD.
You know what that leads too.
10 more years and you can break their plate and change the locks.
Best of luck.

That gives me an idea. So now instead of WTF just type BLT and then when the 8 year olds ask we can say it is a sandwich with bacon, lettuce and tomato. But then WE will all really know WTF it means?
OK?
AOK?
OK...my take on WTF. This is really no different than the way we remap certain words when they are posted. Its a shortened version that we understand what it is just like **** or any other similar word. While I would agree its probably not the best to use in a title its not against the site guidelines and everyone can be creative in what it stands for. The last thing I really want to do is censor acronyms
