Opinions on M7/Anything Else

Hello everyone. I have watched this forum everyday, multiple times per day, for 8 or nine months straight, now, and I just cannot accept how completely discussion has spiralled into futility. I honestly feel like half of my time spent is now wasted sorting through erroneous, completely gratuitous posts. This disturbs me beyond words.

You see, I am proud of my car, of the heritage that it carries, and of the quality of my fellow owners. I am proud to be here. I am thankful to all of the vendors, the moderators, and my fellow MINIacs. Therefore, I do not want to even THINK about going somewhere else. I am sure that many of you feel the same way.

Therefore, I am going to make a gentleman's plee. I expect that we are all entitled to our opinions, and I believe that from time to time things need to be said to protect the buyer [caveat emptor], but I do not believe that even one tenth of what is being said in flamedom these days either adds to the discussion or does any good whatsoever. It only makes gentlemen [and women!] like ourselves become divided. And, this makes the community weak.

So, I am proposing this- when something absolutely cannot go unsaid, say it. But, say it respectfully, and say it once. I believe that we are all good people; that goes without saying, for our taste in cars . I just hope that we can work together to make this forum more accepting of new ideas. Only through new ideas will we ever progress.

Thank you for your time. Feel free to PM me. I will gladly write you when I have time. Now, renal physiology and genetics call. Test tomorrow :-D. If you're a savant in either and you've got time, than any help is appreciated! . Take care.

edit: I'm sorry but I seem to have caused some confusion. This post regards happenings in the Performance Mods sections, but I put it here because it is, obviously, not about a performance mod. Moderators, feel free to move this post. Again, I apologize.

I don't understand this post. Though there are occasional flames in OT, I find it an extremely friendly place where I've made many friends. You mention having to sift through so many "erroneous" and "gratuitious" material, but something I love about OT is that it is Seinfeldian in that it is mostly humor about nothing terribly important. It's claimed the world will end by fire or ice, not cowbell. (Joke.) Perhaps you are taking humor literally.

<y question is if OT offends you then why have you visited it "multiple times per day" for at least 8 months now?

You will likely take this post as a flame given what you've said. I am simply confused and curious. To the end of politeness, sincere best wishes for with your exams. I am so far from a savant with those areas it would not be friendly to try and help.

Don't fret, Bob. He's referring to the Performance forum. Not sure why posting here would help - I seem to be one of the few who visit both.

While it might be flip, I'd have to say that it would be easier to stop the rotation of the earth, or the engagements of Ben Affleck than it would be to stop postings in any forum here.

There was a similar plea in one of the M7 threads, asking people not to post if that same idea had been posted before. I bite my tongue and refuse to post that the idea for people to stop redundant posts has, indeed been posted before.

I think he's referring to Perf Mods, ini. A LOT of threads there make our dearly departed OT:P look like Romper Room by comparison. Personal attacks are common there, but it generally doesnt escalate until someone attacks another person's car.

Actually, I suppose I should clarify and apologize: I am not speaking about the Off Topic section. I only posted here cause I could not find a more appropriate place to do so. I was talking about the MINI Performance sections. I figured this wouldn't be 'on topic' there . I love Off Topic just the way it is :-D!

Whoops and sorry for the misunderstanding, ingsoc. (though I usually use this emoticon to mean "naively smug" this time it is "embarrassed".) Ummm...never mind. ( "simple-minded but well meaning".)

Edit added later: I couldn't resist looking at the M7 thread. At least in OTP we argued over things of huge importance. You know, like if Greatbear is a visionary humanitarian or just another commie stooge.

I agree! Maybe we should all be a little more 'Off Topic!' Hehe.

Well....after reading this thread, I am going to move it from Off Topic to Site Feedback, since it is a discussion of site behavior. Other Moderators, feel free to move it elsewhere as you see fit.
