Funky symbols in posts

I've been noticing a "problem" with some posts that I view. For example, this post.I see a lot of ">". Some times I see posts where code in brackets is visible instead of the actual formatted text. Quotes are sometimes off too. Do I have a setting wrong or something?

Nevermind. I found a thread concerning the &gt stuff. Just older posts. And found out about the formatting as well. Delete me.

If you are reading pre-June 2004 posts, they were created under the old "regime" of the original MCO/NAM software. Unfortunately (for me), many of the posts which included smilies, didn't make it through the migration process, therefore I have a WHOLE lot of (more than usual) nonsensical posts which show emoticons ONLY!

Also, I believe that certain Netscape users have to write their posts in the Note program to avoid the coding/font size nomenclature from appearing in their posts.

I'm sure DiD or Mark Ferguson will explain it better!

Nah...it's a good explanation for others who may be wondering the same thing.
