Turn sigs off?
Im not asking for them all to be removed, but on other boards you can go into your personal options and say "dont show user signatures", its a user setting, not a global setting.

the only way I would agree to turning sig's off is if we could upload our own Avatar!
for the most part, seeing peoples sig is an easy visual in seeing who is posting, it also adds visual entertainment and personality to the site.
Cheers,
Ryan

Before this thread turns into a flame fest on the pros and cons of sigs I'd like to say that this feature was asked for by another user just a day or two ago. As I'm trying to work on a migration to a more full-featured forum system this feature will likely be reality when the upgrade is performed. Hang in there...I'm working on this as fast as I can...unfortunately the migration is not going to be a trivial affair and will take some time. Thanks!

Sigs are noise. They do not add anything to this site except further evidence that Miniacs should stick behind the wheel and stay far far away from Photoshop at all costs.
Reflect your personality in the quality and pertinent subject matter of your posts, rather than seeing it as another opportunity to pollute a page with graphical renditions of your car. We all love our cars here, folks. Constantly stating the painfully obvious at the end of every post is getting rather tedius.
I will most definitely turn sigs off when the feature becomes available.
I agree that it should be an option, so that sig fans can bask in their glory and the rest of us can opt-out. It's like subscribing to the national do-not-call list or turning on a spam filter.
I'm looking forward to the site upgrade. Perhaps the migration to the new platform will offer new opportunities to improve the signal-to-noise ratio around here. I've watched this site grow more than post messages myself, over the past year. I've seen more noise than good posts. More work on signatures than real contributions to our community. We should look to Gabriel Bridger's outstanding MINI site as a model for us all, because it represents the values of motoring better than anything else I've seen out there. There's REAL news and NO NOISE and GOOD DESIGN. If you haven't hit this site yet, you'll be hitting it every day from now on to check for new morsels, even if you don't live in Chicago.
GO BRIDGER! MOTOR ON!

Hey, I missed this thread the first time around. Neat idea! As I understand it, the request is for users to be able to turn off THEIR VIEWING of sigs...not to have MCO turn off the ability to create and use sigs. So, if you want a sig, and if you want to view everyone's sig, then keep the "setting" just as it currently is; but if you want to turn off the viewing of sigs, you could.
I like the suggestion, and think that it may help load times. Most sigs are creative and nice to look at every-so-often...but IMO most get pretty tedious after a while.

>>My biggest problem with them is that I sometimes like to sneak a few posts in at work and I'd like it to be a little more "stealth" looking.
Speaking of stealth, you can always turn off viewing of pictures via your web browser settings.
But in order to maintain some of the look and feel of the site, disabling of sig lines should also be configured to turn off the user's icon ( like mine, the big smiley face with something on his mind).

Being able to turn on/off signature display in posts will be a feature that will be supported in the site upgrade.
As for Gabe's site....I agree, its a great site with lots of great info and a great design. One of the reasons that it is so good is that Gabe and only Gabe provides content there. Given that, Gabe's site is a great resource for all of us seeking the news in the MINI community.

>>If there were no sigs then how would you rent out your sig space?
You could always resort to renting out your "post content space".
Notice no SIG! Kinda saddening.
Blue Bouncing MCS. ALOHA
This space not for rent.

I think it would be a nice addition myself.
