Dear Moderators,

Don't know if anyone has proposed this before, but how about talking to MINI about a new Forum to be called "Ask MINI Division." We have so many threads about the same issues here and they are filled with conjecture, misinformation, tidbits gleaned from service departments, and the occassional MINI Division reply.
The groundrules for the new forum could be simple; something along the lines of only allowing general questions that would benefit all, like, "what updates does ECU software version 36 cover?" If you have a specific complaint against a dealer, service department, etc, you'd still be encouraged to handle it off-line instead of in the forum.
This would allow one source for officially filtered information, improve MINI/enthusiast communication, and cut down on the multiple threads for similar topics.
Hope this is something that you'll consider.

Lets motor better informed. Lets motor with more trust. Lets motor together.

Todd

I think this idea has some merit. Just need a dependable person from Mini, but with this whole name BS... :???:

Hey, if it would fly, I'd be all over it. But I think MCO is having legal problems with MINI right now. Plus, I'm sure there would be liability issues if MINI USA posted information here on the website and then someone made a decision based upon that info. MCO might have to post a disclaimer, etc.

Not to rain on your parade - if a direct dialogue with MINI can be hammered out, I'd love to participate. It would be a great opportunity.

Without revealing my shadow-lurking geekiness too much.. I can relate to the PDA industry where vendors (HP, Dell, ...) have "Support Forums" on forums run by third-parties (a third party like Mark for MCO)

So there is a precedent for it working - the noly downside is often the company does not post very good info due to the rules/regs mentioned above me by posters.

Thread moved to Site Feedback.

Personally, I hope MINIUSA has a new appreciation for the power of MINICOOPEROnline (or whatever it's going to be called after the legal department gets done with it). It would be a sign of good faith on both sides if (1) more opportunites for MINIUSA to participate on the forum were created (2) that MINIUSA fully participated in those opportunites.

MINI Division simply can't keep posting these canned carbon-copy responses to people and expect us to suck it up as customer service. It would certainly be nice to see them participate in a more open nature.

Dave

I personally think it's a great idea, but I suspect that MINI's opinion would be that this is what the "Owners Lounge" (on the MINIUSA site) is supposed to do. Not that it actually DOES perform that function well, but I'm guessing that this is something that they think it's doing/going to do.

BMW/MINI has amply demonstrated that they intend to do everything they can to keep official MINI info securely in their hands. That being the case, I'm surprised that they would post anything on MCO at all (not to mention participating in a designated thread). And come to think of it, just how many times have they posted on MCO since this whole name thing blew up? Once or twice? See?....

I know that this is just wishful thinking on my part.
It would have been so nice to have a direct line to a MINI rep though.
Guess it probably wouldn't fly becase MINI would loose their favorite response, "Gee we've never heard of that before!"

Check out this thread:
http://on.miniusa.com/thread.jsp?for...mp;thread=6006

You have to log into the forums prior to clicking the links, or you'll be directed to the login page. But if you still can't get to it it's in Message Boards / Suggestions for MINI / Owner’s Lounge

So as you can see, if they can't even participate (respond) to messages in their own Suggestions area for the Owner's Lounge, what makes us think they'll actively participate in a third-party's message board?
