What up with all these new ads in NAM?

I am referring to the moving ads at the top of the pages now ?????

Ok, I can understand Prudential Auto Insurance, and Maybe....ads for motorcycles, BUT Soap Operas, and bogus on line colleges ?

I find that CRAP distracting and ridiculous here. I am here partially because there is nothing decent on TV anymore (most times), and MINI's and being with their owners here is what I find interesting.......

As an Alliance Member, these ads should NOT even come up on our computer. Save that crap for those whom wish not to shell out the 40 bucks for a membership like I did............

My 2 cents.

I don't believe that the Alliance membership advertised ad-free browsing as a benefit?

A site with this much traffic literally costs thousands of dollars a month in bandwidth and server space to host. Vendors make it possible. I think as long as the ads remain appropriate (as in, not sexually or otherwise explicit), there is no reason why they shouldn't be there.

Do I love them? Of course not. But do I understand why they exist, and therefore just ignore the ones that don't interest me? Absolutely.

Starting over this past weekend I noticed a new ad on the left side of my screen (so far has been for Dish Network only) when I go to our local forum to post. It is a flash based ad, there is no way to close it, & it covers the entire portion of the top left links (home, forum, market) so I cannot access them. Kinda renders the site 1/2 useless if you ask me. The ads are pretty invasive & counter productive since they don't allow me to actually go anywhere on NAM except where I started out.

Is anybody else getting this annoyance?

Yeah yeah I know I could get adblock but I don't want it & since NAM is the only place where this ad is getting past my firewall I really don't have this problem anywhere else.

Use Firefox, get the add-on called yes script - it will disable javascript, great for browsing, but if you need to upload photos you'll need to remove it.

So check out www.motoringalliance.com for a much nicer MINI forum experience.

And tell IB to stick it.

I'm getting the same thing.

I'm running Google Chrome on Windows. I cannot replicate the problem with either Firefox or Internet Explorer 7 or 8. A friend with chrome cannot replicate the problem, either - strange.

But, I get a nice big Vonage advertisement in that same place. I also get similar over on Drudge Report and a few other forums, too.

Something's not rendering right, that's for sure.

I'm on Firefox and have tried and tried but cannot replicate the complaints, I've got the google ads int he left hand column as they've been for the last two years, and a Whalen banner atop the forum at the moment, that' rotates vendors as it's done for the last 4+ years.

I will however forward this information to internet brands so that if they've got a solution or something else in error with the site it can be remedied, or if it is intention then the opinions of the ramifications thereof will be realized.

It is not intentional to receive a "pop over" ad like you did. Do you have a screen shot or a url of the ad by chance?

Sorry for the inconvenience - it is somewhat difficult to block such advertising.

The problem appears to have resolved itself. I'm not getting "Vonage Ads" displaying over the "Main Menu" portion of the screen.
