Just curious if anyone is experiencing premature wheel bearing failures? I have an 06 MC with SS+, 23,000 miles including only 2 track days, and just had a wheel bearing replaced (fortunately under warranty). I plan to do a lot more track days in the future, and am wondering if this was an anomaly or something to plan on replacing frequently with hard use. My '02 GTI went about 80K miles and 10 track days before the bearings were shot. Figured the H-stock crowd would have a good feel for longevity of OE parts. Thanks!

 

Are you running wheel spacers or an aggressive offset?

 

Nope, stock setup all the way.

 

Then I would say you hit an anomoly - ie. a bad bearing.

 

I had bad front bearings around 35k-38k running non-agressive wheels (15x7 et40)...02 Cooper

Total bummer. I attributed it to salt water (live on an island in the summers), dirt roads, and bad pot holes

 

I would say that it was out the norm too....Worked on many MINI race cars without any consistant failures...with all track days!!!
