how would you equip a new mini?

Hello,
I am new to the forum. I currently drive a 2004 Subaru STI in STU, I'm ready for something new and was considering a new STI, but I am not sure about the new five door style.
So I decided to give a Mini Cooper S a try at a local dealer. It was fantastic. 2007 with a limited slip diff.

So now I am seriously considering a Mini, but I would like to order it with the best equipment for GS.

I know the limited slip is a must, but what are your opinions of the "sport" package and the "hyper-sport" package?

Thanks,

Jeff

The sport package has nothing to increase performance! Go for LSD and sports suspension. Strange how they made a sports package that doesn't include sports suspension! The hyper sport package is just sports suspension with an ugly body kit.

Add multi-function leather steering wheel to get cruise control for the long drives and you are all set.

three options:
LSD
Sport suspension
Multi-function wheel

I got:
Premium Pkg
Sprt Pkg
Cold Weather Pkg (I live in SoCal but that way I can have the AC on and heat my dates seat)
Convenience Pkg
Sport Suspention

They hyper sport just adds the Sport Suspention and the body kit. Didn't get the LSD .... was that a bad move?

There is a whole thread discussing the value of LSD: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...d.php?t=110734

I was talking about the way the kit comes from the factory. I agree that it looks good with painted wheel arches - that is the way MINI should have made it look!

BTW: As this is the G-stock forum, this is the only way to go if you want a body kit and want to stay in GS.

I know, I was just kidding. I knew it looked much better than factory, otherwise, I would never have posted any pics, it was really funny looking before I added the Way Motorworks painted arches. Here is another pic of the towers at a better angle.....

I just realized I sabotaged this thread. lol Anyway, the main thing when buying a new Mini would be the following.....

Must have....
LSD -otherwise, wheelspin will be even worse than it is with an LSD.
Sport Suspension -
stiffer springs, swaybars, shocks
Multi-function wheel
- for those long trip between events
Anthracite headliner - in case you ever plan to put wheels/tires in the back seat or if you ever have greasy fingers from swapping tires. This will ensure that the headliner always looks new. Light colored headliners suck, and, always ultimately get dirty when autocrossing no matter how careful I am. I currently have a light colored headliner and hate it because of this.
Hypersport package with Way Motorworks painted arches - only if you want your car to look like mine. :-)

Things to definitely avoid.....
Sunroof - this option is a great option, but, not one that you'll want if you care to have the best possible setup on your Mini.

Hope that helps and sorry about the sabotage. ;-)

I was just looking at the configuator today - Black, White, Red, Yellow - non metallic colors. Sport suspension and LSD. $22,350. That was as cheap as I could get the car. I don't need extra silly stuff if I'm buying it for a commuter + autocrosser!

There's a very real chance that all GS and BS Mini's will be combined into DS next year.

I would get an 06 JCW.

I would get an 06 JCW.
Has an 06 JCW been compared with an 07 R56?

Not yet that I know of. But, these two are being proposed to move as seperate proposals, so, I wouldn't be surprised if they move one and not the other since the SCCA is so unpredictable. I'd guess the R56 and JCW would be a good matchup on most courses. Oh wait, the JCW is stuck on 17's, so, my guess is, since it suffers from less torque than an R56, the R56 will eat it for lunch. :-) Well, maybe just a snack.

Here is my list:
Multifunction wheel
Cold weather kit (mostly for the heated seats which my poor banged up back needs)
sport suspension
LSD
no sunroof
no nanny (whatever they call the antifun button)
16" wheels (use after market wheels for autocrossing)
manual tranny
Mellow yellow with white top (good in the deserts of the Southwest)
