Daytona 2010 / Fresh from Florida

Opening a new thread for the upcoming Daytona race on Friday January 29, 2010. This race will be televised but the date has not been announced. I will post the info when I know.

We will run two cars:

196 Randy Smalley and Owen Trinkler
197 Sara Cattaneo and VJ Mirayzan

198 is now a spare but will be ready if needed.

Owen ran a 2:10.148 at the test last week. This was a top three overall time. The other drivers were nipping his heels running low to mid 2:11's. These are very good times for Mini's at Daytona where the Mini's 'flying brick' aerodynamics are a serious handicap. The cars make up for this handicap by being very quick in the infield and the bus stop.

It should be an interesting race. It's not a track where the Mini's are historically competitive but we are turning some heads.

We expect a large fan turnout just like last year. The paddocks are open at Daytona so attendees can get up close and personal. We really enjoy showing off the cars so plan on stopping by for pictures and a little bench racing.

Randy

Hey just a question. I know the MINI's are bricks aerodynamically but how do they draft when behind some other make/model? Do you pass them in the turns and then latch on to the next victim or doesn't it help that much?

I hope to catch this on the TV when it airs! GOOD LUCK!

I won't be here in SoCal for over a week

Browsing around info on the 2010 Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge on the Grand-Am website this afternoon, and it looks like the TV schedule has posted?

Its a small world, we had a Mini in yesterday and the owner had designed the diffs for the Kia Grand Am cars, he was quite amazed that I knew that they were qualifying today and there first race is Friday.

Good luck today

Maybe this taken from Automotive.com?:

Continental Tire has announced it will be both the title sponsor and official tire of the Grand-Am Sports Car Challenge Road Racing Series in 2010. It will replace Hoosier as the official tire supplier in 2009. However, Continental Tire recently struck a cooperative deal with Hoosier tires, which will probably see the series remain on tires similar to the Hoosier product........
