Not since last May, when I drove on the track for time trials ... In a Mustang GT. When you whip around on the banked corners, you can't see squat, just pavement in front of you, you get sucked down, then the track flatens a bit as you come onto the straight, and then you can see .. it is weird.

The infield is fairly easy to negotiate, no big deal, just breaking into turn 1 is key

I spun after locking up a rear wheel, going into the kink on the back straight, no ABS at the time, flat spotted the tire bad, well no harm 'cept a 500$ tire gone bad !!!

I found those pics by searching ... I seeks, I find ..LOL

I posted some pics of the 2 cars on track but don't see the yellow one ... Is that a spare ? The cars look great and the times are sweet for that aero track

With front wheel drive and rain always a threat, we may have a great run

Do you find you can pass on the inside on the infield track ?

We will be cheering you all on !!!

Phil

The 198 (yellow) is now the spare car. It has been updated to all the 2010 spec's so it may a make an appearance or two later in the year.

The Mini's are the best in the infield. The strong lap times are a result of our speed there. We are also the best at the bus stop. The flatout aero sections (which is the majority of the track ) are our weak spot. The field for this year's event will be +/- 70 cars. In years past it has been +100. The smaller field should work to our advantage as the infield traffic will be less.

We left the test with a top three time (2:10.148 Owen 196) for the weekend so we can run up front.

On the other hand . . . it was REALLY cold and the Minis' like cold air. . . but then, most cars do.

We were pleased with the test

I was surprised that one of the Honda's went a 2.09 but even more surprised that they went a 2.08.599 in 2009 when I looked at last years results.

Good luck at the end of the month and make sure its 1-2 on the podium, I'm sure this vid at 2.00 will fire you and the other drivers / crew to make it happen

HAHA, he had a tow from a Mustang GS car all the way around the banking... Correct me if I'm wrong but don't the Mustang GT's get the 5.4L motor? How is a lowly Civic able to hold close enough to a GS car around the banking to pick up a tow all the way around?

The above two posts shows your lack of common sense.

They use a special 5.0 'cammer' Ford racing engine. High torque, 4 valve overhead cam.

1) Everyone claims they got a tow when they post a fast lap There is no way an ST car holds a tow with a Mustang at Daytona. . . unless it's a very slow one.

2) This is the first real event of the year so the track is not 'rubbered in'. I suspect the times will drop when the race arrives. The track conditions were unpredictable . . . including ice on Saturday morning. I don't tink anyone ran as as fast a time as they could have . . . nor as fast as they will come race day.

Ice cold tracks and sticky R compounds don't make for fast times. Hoping weather is better the end of the month, but not too hot for those intercoolers.

Sweet spot I've found seems to be high 40's and Direct sunlight to warm the pavement up.

You'd be surprised daytona is pricey and only a couple races there a year though SCCA. I don't have all that much time on it. I think I've done 3 races there + the One Lap of America Last May.
