Greg:
You are correct. That is exactly what I'm doing. The Pace quality is as good as it gets. However, the packaging has some issues. I'm working with them to acquire the basic parts and then put the kit together properly.
The key is to get enough interest so that they will sell the parts at a reasonable price.
There are 5 interested at this point . . . I need at least 5 more.

This is out of my price range at the moment. I hope you get enough interest.

Thanks Matt:
More facts . . .
I HAVE a 'Madness' w2a IC. . . I ran it at Mosport. IT DOES NOT WORK. . . Boiled the water out in one lap. It's for sale!!! It may work on the street but not on the track. I paid $1300 for a piece of art that now decorates my Garage floor.
UPDATE: I got a call from Mini Madness about this. They have asked that I return my unit to be tested. I am going to do that. So for the time being, I am going to hold off on any conclusions. I respect these guys for stepping up and looking into this.

they also stepped up quickly when i reported of a friend's bad experience w/ the same intercooler on the track. he took it out after the first on track session and never put it back on. MM replied immediately and wanted to check into the problem.
Greg:
What was the outcome?
Randy
my buddy wasn't interested in putting it back on, so no real resolution. his car puts out 235whp and he is very quick. he has much MM gear on his car (which was built at Renntech), but he didn't like the IC.
Randy,
You can put me down as slightly intreasted. But I know that I wouldn't be able to budget this kind of purchase until after the holidays.
Do you have any feel for how this system would hold up in daily driving? Also, is there special ECU tuning that needs to be done to take advantage of this? My car is a daily driver that I take to track days 5-6 times a year, so I don't want a system that might give me problems.

Right now they're running 38th & 39th overall, less than an hour left.

Miller Wrap up
All in all, a fun but difficult weekend. We were hopeful that the tight, technical sections of this 4.5 mile track would offset the two long high 5th gear straight-aways. It was not to be.
The cars were very capable in the the twisty stuff and could go through as fast or faster than virtually any car on the track. The problem was horsepower. Exiting the wide and open corners would allow the higher HP cars many choices on where and how to pass. The best we could muster was a 3:23+ lap, which was 5-6 seconds off the pace.
Mark and Rick did a great job in the #197 lapping at a steady and secure pace. Unfortunately, right at the end the car was running out of fuel, forcing Rick to slow and giving up two positions. Another gallon of gas or two and the 197 could have been 16th.
We chased setup problems on the #198 all week. The car developed a serious under steer which we were unable to correct. We made progress, but ran out of testing sessions to continue the work. Post race, we think we finally found out what the problem was ... it appears there was an internal problem with the two front shocks. They were given to Koni for verification.
An another interesting issue . . . as a last resort on the #198, we took 50lbs of spring out of the front hoping to give the front more 'bite'. The unexpected consequence was lifting the inside rear tire rather high. A nice photo opportunity, but not so good for handling. The turns were so long that the raised tire would come to a complete stop . . . fooling the ABS computer and triggering an ABS fault . . . therefore, no ABS. Touch the brakes in a curve, and the rear end would instantly break loose. To correct, I would kill the key . . . kill the master . . . then start everything up again. The ABS would reboot, only to fault again with a lap or two.
SO . . . . the 17th place finish was better than we deserved.
Both cars finished in the top twenty. We earned driver and team points so the result was OK.
The 'RSR' intercooler worked great. The ambient race day temps were above 90 and we never saw an inlet temp over 150. The normal running temp was around 110/120. For comparison, the JCW IC was about 20-25 degrees hotter at similar track positions on the other car.
We now consider the IC problem solved. We are going to get more aggressive with the mapping.
Lastly, thanks to the crew who once again did a great job. We had one major failure. The clutch throw-out bearing on the #197 exploded at the end of the 1st practice session. This required an engine removal and transmission swap. We have now added replacement of this bearing to the race prep list. It should not happen again.
That's it . . . VIR is next.
As always, thanks for the support and thanks to the Mini owners who stopped by to look and wish us luck.

Randy,
I spent all race listening and following the "live scoring" on line. (Would rather have been there helping though!)
That explains why the cars switched positions at the end of the race.
Nice, consistent racing.
There are a couple of nice MINI pics on TheRaceSite.com.
Who's in the driver lineup for VIR?

First off, hats off to the crew who really worked hard to replace the transmission in the #197 and than chase suspension issues on the #198. I don't know how many adjustments were done to the #198 (I lost count) but needless to say Randy and Owen tried everything to sort our their suspension. We now know that what the problem was, it was shock related, so hopefully that is behind us.
With regard to the IC, I had the opportunity to drive the #198 in testing for 5 laps due to the throw out bearing going out on the #197 prior to my stint. I can say, the intercooler makes a huge difference, I could really feel the added power in the #198. I can't wait to get the new IC system on the #197!!
Miller was at first a bit much for my brain to grasp, the 23 turns are a lot to learn with limited time. We could run with any ST car in the turns and had good fights with many of them. All in all it was great fun and we find that we continue to gain on our competition.
A big thanks to RSR Motorsports, I look forward to VIR.
Mark
