Schomp MINI has CD #31: MCS Cold Start
Schomp has finally received that magical/mythical CD #31 from MINI. The CD contains the software reprogram for the Cooper S to fix the Cold Start problem.
You'll need to call Amy at MINI service to set things up (303) 798-1500. They are planning on handling a limited number of cold start software fixes each day. Also, this CD came with a notice that the cold start upgrade is only for cars built before July 2002.

I got my Cooper done yesterday.
This morning it was 40 degrees (F). Previously, when it was below 45 it would be sluggish and nearly stall when pulling away in the cold. This morning the initial idle was at ~1250 rpm (rather than ~850 rpm) and had no lag when pulling away. Once the car warmed up the idle went back down to a little under 1000 rpm.
That's the only immediate difference I noticed so far. I'll post any differeneces after driving it for another week. Hopefully we'll get a few more cold mornings to test things out.

I had my Cooper S reprog'd this morning. ficcion was getting his done right after mine. Now all I need to do is wait until tomorrow morning and I get to start my car on the 1st try
Definitely noticing some positive difference at the lower RPM's, not as much "bog down" out of first gear. She seems to be starting well also.
Don't want to say too much yet, but cold start aside, power delivery feels better.
Time will tell...

As a veteran to this forum, would you say that most all major mechanical issues have been resolved on the S? I won't receive my S until Spring.

- MINI has fixed Cold Start now with this reprogram
- My first two windshields stress cracked and were replaced under warrenty. I have seen no evidence MINI is changing the design. So it remains to be seen if this problem will continue.
- The shift cable on the Cooper (not the S) had a problem and that's been fixed
- The seat tilt mechanism has been redesigned, but I gather it's still mildly problematic
- The sunroof rattle can be fixed with a little fuzzy sticky velcro
Otherwise, I think the MINI is pretty solid. I really wouldn't worry about it. I have about 12700 miles on mine and consider almost all of this to be minor stuff.
