I am putting together a car. It will be a WAY MOTOR WORKS special. I'll be cutting it close to make it to Vegas.
I also am looking for Sponsers, or if anyone would just like to buy a place on the side of my car we can talk.

Seems like new rules and requirements are coming in ....Still no info on tires

2. Driving suit and underwear of fire-retardant material, double-layer Nomex or equivalent.
3. Nomex gloves and Nomex or leather shoes.
4. Head and neck restraints system for a nationally recognized supplier is highly recommended
Race Car Safety Requirement:

2. Seat Belts -- Minimum of a 5-point racing type seat belt, shoulder harness, and submarine strap is required. The date of manufacture should not exceed 5 years.
3. External Cut-Off Switch -- This switch must cut off electrical power to the engine's ignition system and all fuel pumps

I will know for cetain next week if we can make Las Vegas or not.
I've just returned my 03 MCS to stock so I could sell it, but I may now convert it to run in Class 3.
Please keep posting if more rules appear.
Some ?'s
- seats, can we replace the drivers seat? Wouldn't that fall under safety, although it is a performance advantage.
- tires, tires, tires. are they going to be a spec size as well as a spec tire? I need to know tire sizes to make a decision on brakes. Some suspensions work better with 15's or 16's rather than 17's.
-motor must be stock, no problem. What about transmissions, can you add a Quaife to a pre-05? performance advantage on the tight and twisties.
I just don't want to bring a knife to gun fight.

I will be running in the JCW/210hp class. I will also be in vegas along with Randy, and maybe a third or even 4th car in the series. I am looking forword to putting NAM names to faces
. And just to let you guys know, we are offering class specific packages upton request. We can also maybe work out a discount if you run our graphic.

The dyno question is a good one. I'm not sure how they are figuring that, but I know we are safe with Brian's car in 210 - we have done a 15% pulley, a CAI, a GRS top mount intercooler, plugs/wires/coilpack, and a cat-back. We could probably get away with a bit more in fact.
The tires are still up for discussion - I know that Phil was working on a sponsor for the series.
I will definitely be there with the car for unlimited. We are prepping two other cars as well for different classes, in addition to Brian's. Built-by-Bones will be supplying our package cages (he's a Colorado local and a damn good guy).
I'd be interested to hear who plans on running unlimited and what mods are done to tha cars. We are currently planning on running the stock supercharger at the first event. Our car has a WMS CAI, WMS throttle body, WMS 15% pulley, prototype water-air intercooler, Alta 2% crank pulley, WMS cylinder head, plugs/wires/coilpack, WMS header, WMS race exhaust, custom WMS ECU for power upgrades. It runs 225+ at the wheels on a Dynojet, and I really don't think you can get much more than that on a car at operating temp with the stock supercharger.
What are allowed for mods in USTCC?
See you all soon!

That's a great shot RED FURY!
Are you gonna hit any of the events this year?
Dave,
It was good talking with you - I got the email and am working up some things. I am definitely interested in running at least one of the USTCC events, and I may still make the March 11 Pueblo event. Thanks for the info!

I'm also curious as who will signing up and in what clases.
my Car is set up for D-Modified class in the BMWCCA club race series.
I'm in Louisiana and might consider entering in the unlimited class provided there will be enough competition.

Randy, here are the BMWCCA rules. D-Mod is on page 35. It's almost unlimited in mods.
I know Steve has done some races in this class, but I'm unsure of his confidence that the Mini is as competative as he says it is. There are some real fast M3s out there that can mod as much as we can in the Mini. Unfortunatly the Mini S gets put in with cars with 2200 to 2980 cc motors because it's supercharged.
Anyway, I hope to find out first hand shortly. Unfortunatly being as far east as can be, it will be unlikely to get out to CA this year.

D-Mod class
Randy,
D-Modified class in the BMWCCA rules is foe cars ranging from 2200cc to 2980cc. Just about any degree of modification is allowed, the Mini being supercharged gets a 1.5 multiplyer making it a 2400 cc equivalent. The the key to being competitive requires getting the car as light as possible, good set-up (car has to rotate) and of course as much power as you can get.
My car was very competitive in the J-Prepared class until I qualified on pole in class last year at TWS (9th on grid out of 28 cars). At that point tech decided pulleys were illegal in JP even though Ada Cheung, Per Schroeder (Grass Roots Motorsports) all had raced in JP the previous year with pulleys but were not a threat, so no one noticed.
Up till then, my car was still street legal (not gutted) therfore, I made the decision to go to DM="doesn't matter" what I do. Losing all the extra weight and tuning suspension has made a huge difference....just look at the results from Roebling Road last December, 3rd on grid out of 29 cars behind two CM highly modified cars with high-dollar Euro-spec engines.
Trust me, ther is more potential to be extracted out of this little car.
Regards,
Steve

Several things confuse me about this series. There are many run groups within the series, all but vintage Mini's eligable to earn points toward the championship (this is my understanding of the rules). It is too bad a formula for car preperation, simular to what is done in the UK and here with Spec MINI's was not established prior to the launch of the series. I suspect timing was a factor in this. I beleive if this can be done, the series would/will be more of an 'apple to apple" situation. As of now I don't believe the series provides this important aspect.
If there are to be 3 events east and 3 events west with Laguna scheduled for late September, there is limited time to host 2 additional events in the west prior to a champion racing in an October race abroad. There may be an updated schedule I am not aware of which would negate the above.
Also, the cost of transporting a car and travel for crew/driver back and forth across the country is very expensive. If regionally drivers could team up to split some of the cost's that would help a great deal. Regardless to run the full season would be very expensive.
Don't get me wrong. I am deep into racing my MINI and would like this series to become a big success. I hope the grids are full for every event and the races are close. I also hope some firm guidelines are fomulated that are close to existing MINI racing series which would allow for the growth of all MINI racing in the U.S.
Best of luck to all those driving this weekend and to Phil for taking on the challenge of a national race series. I know I will support the series when possible. Laguna last December was great and hopefully an indicator of things to come.
