Redding-Shasta-Lassen Run June 23-25, 2006
Please join Redwood Empire Mini Enthusiasts on our biggest event planned to date. Most of the itinerary has been developed but is subject to minor change as the event date approaches. Please RSVP by February 15 so that we can book the rooms. Additionally you will have to individually reserve rooms at the hotels / motels listed prior to May 1st.
Please review the following description of the weekend planned:
06-23-06: Pre-run starting in Healdsburg, heading north on Hwy 101 to Fortuna then east to Redding (optional for those really looking for more back road mountain driving). Please refer to the route map
06-23-06: Everyone will meet in Redding Friday night. Because members will be arriving all hours of the day and night (and possibly early Saturday morning), dinner will be on your own or with other Mini Enthusiasts you meet upon your arrival. If you arrive early enough and have made reservations, join members for dinner on a Shasta Lake Dinner Cruise
06-24-06: Participants will meet by 8:30am for a 9:00am departure. We will head west on SR-299 towards Weaverville, up SR-3 to have lunch at Trinity Center. After lunch we will take back country mountain roads to Gazelle, Weed, and eventually south to Mount Shasta. Please refer to the route map. After checking in the motel, interested participants will have a short group run to Bunny Flat on Mount Shasta. Dinner is on your own or you can join the group headed for dinner on the Shasta Sunset Dinner Train.
06-25-06: Sunday will be a very full day of driving. After departing from Mount Shasta at 9am, we will take a spirited drive to Burney Falls for an early picnic lunch and Mount Lassen for a late picnic lunch (or snack). We will return to Redding in the late afternoon or early evening depending on stops. Please refer to the route map. Looks like we may join your group. Probably 4 of us or more. I will be getting our newsletter out and will mention your plans and reserve by Feb.15.Great area of the Sierras for a summer run!!!!Way to go Redwoods!!!! Lisa S.N.M.
Mike and Tony's on Mt Shasta Blvd in Mt Shasta City had a great family-style Italian dinner 20 years ago. By the time they brought the 16-oz t-bone you were already full. FWIW, like I say, 20 years ago...
Another good road up there is the one from Happy Camp on Hwy 96 over to Hwy 199 at Cave Junction. It's steep n' twisty.

Please send me a check or make a payment by PayPal ASAP to guarantee your spot as well as to guarantee the reduced rate. You will not want to miss this event or dinner. Door prizes will be awarded, but you must be present at the dinner train to participate and win.

Prerun Friday 6/23/06
The pre-run on Friday 6/23/06 will be a full day of driving (over 300 miles) starting in Healdsburg at 9am, taking 101 and The Avenue of the Giants north, having lunch and gas stop in Fortuna about 1:30pm. We will meet up with any participants from PDX, leaving Fortuna about 2pm, to arrive in Redding sometime after 6pm. This will be a quick paced drive through the mountains with few formal rest stops. NOT FOR THE WEAK OF BLADDER. See the new run map.
Although you can decide to join us on this run up to the very last minute, if you plan to stay with the group in the same hotels or join us on the Shasta Dinner Train Saturday night, you should sign up very soon.
I will be accepting reservations for the Dinner Train until mid-April. I believe that the dining car we will be on will hold up to 50-54 people.... we have 34 signed up for the dinner train now, so there are only a limited number of available seats left.
This June run will be a great MINI activity that will not want to miss.

To All the REME Shasta Run Participants:
Just a coupe of updates
Day 1 Healdsburg:
For those of you that are going to drive Day 1 leaving from Healdsburg to Redding through the Avenue of the Giants and Highway 36 to Redding, there are several members staying the night in the Santa Rosa, Healdsburg, Windsor area.
Therefore we will have a dinner "get-together" Thursday Night on the Windsor Square. As a send-off for our run, the Town of Windsor is having a Live Concert on the Green from 5-8PM with a farmers market. There will be vendors, food, Latin Salsa Music. One the square there are several restaurants include Lepe's Mexican, KC's on the Square, and Patterson's Pub.
Shasta Sunset Dinner Train
For those of you going on the dinner train, your payment included the four course dinner, soft drinks, train ride, tax and gratuity, so your evening is already paid. If you wish any alcoholic beverages, they do offer beer and wine at an extra charge. I am attaching a copy of their wine menu so you will know what is available.
Just a reminder that the dinner train does suggest that you dress as though you were going to fine restaurant. This is California and it's a vacation spot, but you may want to bring some extra clothing (collared shirt-men/dress-women) for that evening.
If you have not done so, please send me your dinner entree choice. Please send via email: norm@redwoodempiremini.com
The Oxford Suites in Redding:
The Oxford Suites will have a section of the parking lot blocked off for our MINIs for Friday Night. This will be in front along Hilltop Drive for all to see. They will have "WELCOME MINI COOPERS" on the marquis. There are two a car washes within a 2 blocks of the hotel. If those don't work, they will have an area in the back parking lot available with hose & bucket for washing your MINI.
There will be a REME registration table set up in the pool area or the lobby. Here you will get your run booklet and goodie bag.
Saturday AM:
We will have a short "Photo Shoot" in Old Shasta on highway 299 the way to Weaverville. The highway going through old town Shasta is very wide and has great parking.
We will be having lunch at the Yellow Jacket Eatery in Trinity Center on Saturday. We will be calling them Saturday morning to give them a head count. It is a fairly small "mom & pop" restaurant with great hamburgers, salads, and sandwiches. They will have a limited menu for our lunch as they do not normally get 50 people at one time. They do have enough seating capacity for us.
Mt. Shasta:
We have not included any formal time to drive up on Mt. Shasta, but I do recommend a drive up to Bunny Flat. This is a nice drive out of town to the 7000 ft level. There is a large parking lot with great panoramic views. It's a great place to take photos. Please try to fit this in when we get to Mt. Shasta Saturday about 3PM and before we leave for dinner about 5PM. If not maybe we can try going up Sunday AM before leaving for Burney Falls.
AM Burney Falls:
We have arranged with the park ranger at Burney Falls to pre-print receipts for entry into Burney Falls park. There is a $5 per car fee. We got them to consider us all seniors, so look old when we arrive. When you get to Burney Falls they will give you a receipt for your car. Then they hope to have a parking area set aside for us. This will cut down the entry time going through the gate. We will then pay him one payment for the whole group. There is a snack bar there, but we do plan to stop in the Town of Burney for lunch.
As news develops I will try to keep you all posted.
Looking forward to a memorable run.

Last Call for the Shasta Sunset Dinner Train.
I have to call this AM with the final numbers. This is the LAST opportunity to sign up fo the train. We still welcome anyone who wishes to join in on the run. They just will not be able to do the dinner on Saturday.

Norm, thanks for keeping us informed. You are ONE dedicated Mini Dude. This is going to be such a good time. Perhaps an annual event ? Others who cannot join us this trip hope for a run next year. Glenn
Glenn,
We hope this will become a yearly event. There are soooo many places to go & see in this area. We could take different routes each year.
As you know this is a team effort. Peter is putting in as much time & effort as I am. There is a lot of help from others as well.
Hope everyone enjoys it enough to do it again.

NO TIE HERE.........Nice shirt, maybe Dockers, shoes, and sock's are optional depending on the weather. That's my thought's.....No need to get all dressed up...probably the same as the awards dinner at AMVIV3 is what I'm thinking.
a collared tee shirt (like the REME polos) or hawaiian and not too faded or stained blue jeans without rips and tears.... after all this is California, and in the mountains much less...
but then I am usually the first person to dress down

Last I heard...$$$$ ..is $$$$, no matter how you're dressed. As long as we are all "clean" and "most" of the bugs are off the grille, we should be OK..

Glenn,
If you wear a tie, you'll be the only one. I will not be caught dead in a tie.
A golf shirt will be more than enough. As Peter put... "this is California".
Willum you got the idea exactly right.
