A big thank you to all who attended our first really "big" run. The run was successful because of the participation from those of you who attended. This proves that a "little" club can pull off big things.

Remember that this was only the first half of the 2006 REME Mountain Tour. The second half is Labor Day weekend in September for another four days of driving fun!

We are still driving and will not return home until Wednesday night. I will catch up on email then as well as attempt to upload some photos on the REME MegaBBS.

Sorry we had to bail out early.........and YES....I'm a GrandPa. Made it home (300mi) in just under 4hrs.
Little girl (cute'est in the land) born at 6:23pm Monday eve....got here in plenty of time.... Mom and daughter doing excellent....5lbs 13oz..17" long. Dark "peach fuzz" hair....was hoping for a redhead (mom is) but that could change. Only had about 20min of hard labor, her Mom and I were present during the delivery What a wonderful weekend of twisties, good friends, meeting new ones, no major issues that didn't get resolved and topped it off with my 1st grand child. Can't ask for much more than that.
See everyone soon. And thanks for a most memorable trip......can't wait for the 2nd Annual.......Whoo Hoo!!

Congratulations Willum! Thanks to everyone for making our only real vacation this year a super special one. Leeta and I had so much fun we are planning out ways to do the 2nd half. Seeing as the kids were with us as we took some nice twisties coming back from Eureka today I think we'll be able to bring them along on that one. Just cannot wait :-) Thanks all!

Photos will be posted somewhere soon. We'll link em as soon as they all get there.

Congrats Willum. We all understand you leaving a little early. That is one Great excuse. Glad to hear that baby, momma, and Grandpa are doing fine.

You missed one hot day coming back from Lassen. It hit 119F on the MINI thermometer. Reports say it hit 122F in Palo Cedro on Sundy. Maybe you did not miss all the heat going down I-5.

It's amazing how the MINIs were able to handle the heat, even with the spirited driving.

Today it's 78F up here in Old Shasta.

Wow....
It was only 102 on Sunday here. A/C in the MINI worked just fine throughout the entire trip. Altho I tried to keep it off during the "most spirited" parts of the run. A couple of times I saw the oil temp and water temp start to climb but was never close to the danger zone.
Looking forward to the next trip.

Mini is fixed

I took my Mini to Mini of Concord for repair. As you might know it lost the ability to boost near the end of Day 1 and I had to drive home easy on the throttle and below 4k rpm or else the motor would shut off. I turned it over to David Savell the SA who I met on the King City Nikki run. He was pleased to have me come up there and give them a try and promised a quick turn around.

MoC took my call on Monday and was able to give me an appointment for today. I live in Dublin, about 25 miles away. I am about 5 miles from East Bay and I work about 5 miles from Mini of Mt. View. I started calling on Monday to make an appointment. EB never returned my calls and their number rang busy much of the time. Jennifer at MoMV called me back a day later and said they were all booked up.

I just spoke with Dave at MoC and my Mini is all fixed. It was a stuck boost bypass valve. I am pleased that they got it done so fast so I will be able to go away this weekend. I am heading to Palm Desert to visit Mom with a stop at Willow Springs on the way for a track day. I hope last weekend conditioned me to the heat.

Michael,

Glad to hear it all worked out OK. I'm sure you are now conditioned for the heat.

Have a good trip.

Janet and I just got back today (at about 5pm). We extended the trip a little by a few days as chronicled below:

Monday: We visited the Sun Dial Bridge, drove back north on I-5 and toured the Shasta Dam and the Shasta Caverns. We spent the night in Yreka.

Tuesday: We drove up I-5 to Grants Pass to do some annual shopping at Fred Myers. We then drove to the Oregon Caves and then spent the night in Crescent City.

Wednesday. Drove to Eureka for lunch at the Samoa Cookhouse and continued down 101 to return home at 5pm.

Total miles driven including Friday-Wednesday was 1388 miles for me and 1225 for Janet.

Our average mileage from Monday thru Wednesday was 32.6 mpg for me and 33.1 mpg for Janet (this included our trip from Redding up I-5 to Grants Pass to Crescent City and finally to Healdsburg).

It is amazing that our mileage was so similar (I did add an octane booster to most of my tanks), since I drive a MCS and Janet drives an MC.

Here is a link to an article in the Mt. Shasta Herald, a local newspaper in Mt. Shasta that covered our arrival on Saturday afternoon before going out on the dinner train.

Here is a little video I did of the run. It is taken with my hand held camera, not the in car cam. I hope you enjoy it.

Thanks. It was a great run. I just wish I had taken more video clips. There was lots more that we saw and did. I'd have stayed another day if I could.

Here are a couple of video clips from the run. Video 1 starts in Healdsburg and the jumps to the section from Trinity Center to the summit at Scott Mountain. The clip is about 19 1/2 minutes long. The "twisites" start at about 13 1/2 minutes.

Video 2 is Sunday morning. Begins with the drive down Mt. Shasta (Bunny Flat) and then jumps to Oak Run to Whitmore.

Both clips were filmed in the Pooper and Rob (Hoppi) Huebschmann prepared them for uploading.

It's about 40 minutes total, so sit back and enjoy.

Some Shorter Clips

Just in case some folks have slowing connections, I made some much smaller (compressed) versions of the videos. Obviously the quality drops, but these are around 27 megs each instead of 80 megs.....

Hoopi,
I also took 2 hours of video... I only looked at the first tape which was primarily of the Avenue of the Giants and SR-36 including gerldoc's flat tire stop. I missed Day2 altogether, but took more on Day 3. If you are interested in taking them and combining them for a large run video let me know. It may be a couple of weeks until I start to do some editing of them.
