Getting P0128 in Hot Weather

New MINI owner here.

A couple of weeks ago my R60 was leaking coolant. Took it to my mechanic and he ended up having to replace the seals on the Engine Oil cooler.

Then, two weeks ago the radiator fan was making a loud noise as soon as the car came on so I took it back to my mechanic thinking that it was related to the earlier work.

Turns out it's the Thermostat stuck issue and he reset it. He found out that MINI has a warranty on the Thermostat for 10 years or 120K miles. Called MINI to confirm.

Got it again this weekend, borrowed a friends scanner to confirm the issue and it came up with the P0128 Error Code.

Also, assuming the scanner I have will work, by erasing the codes will that reset the Thermostat or is there another process for that?

I called MINI dealer closest to me and they can't see me for a week. MINI dealer said that if I am not losing power I should be OK until I take it in. I have checked the coolant levels and everything looks good.

My question is am I doing any damage to the vehicle by driving it?

I did order an ODBLink MX+ so I could monitor the engine temperature, however, I won't have that until Wednesday.

Also, if my scanner will erase the codes does that mean it will reset the Thermostat?

Erasing codes doesn't reset anything. Just makes it potentially harder for tech to diagnose car if all history is gone. Generally if they don't have the codes they are lost. I wouldn't be driving the car with a bad thermostat.
