Mystery Codes - Need Help
Hey all,
Just recently my 2011 Cooper S threw up the good ol check engine light. I was aware that the thermostat had some problems, but it seemed to have fixed itself during the heat of summer. So I assumed it would do the same but the light remained on and my car began to run quite poorly. During start up the car would hold idle at roughly 1500 rpm (occasionally 1200) and when it would finally calm down, it would be extremely coarse with constant rpm dips. The aux fan would also stay on for long periods of time afterwards no matter how long the drive.
So heres the fun part... I threw my OBDII scanner in and I got 2 additional codes following the usual P0128 (Thermostat).
P32E3
...and
P2947
I found some info on the second, that being a recall for the thermostat and housing, Im curious if that is still in act? (As in may I get the recall even after it was initially started back in 2012?). The first one I have zero clue to, Im thinking it may be my low quality ELM OBDII reader, who knows. Any help would be greatly appreciated, have a long drive coming up very soon and need to get the kinks out.

Your idle issue sounds like a HPFP taking a dump, as my 2011 did the same thing right before throwing all kinds of codes for misfires and low fuel pressure, then going into limp mode. The other codes, no idea. I do know that at some point before I bought my car used that the thermostat housing was replaced under warranty due to failing a smog test in NY. I think the coolant temp sensor is part of the housing, or at least included with the housing. Hope that is some help. Maybe others will chime in.
