Can't get fob to fully engage

So I replaced my battery for my 2012 MCS on Saturday, drove around fine all day Sunday and this morning I unlocked the car remotely. When I put in the fob I couldn't start the car and the fob became stuck. I was able to remove it with some effort, but now there appears to be a gap where the tray appears to still be locked in the forward position and I can no longer get the fob in to try and start the car. I did see the driving lights come on when unlocking the doors.

Other notes...
Manual Transmission
At home battery replacement

I’m not sure how these work with a manual, but with an automatic, if it is not in park, the fob does not want to come out or go in without force (not a good idea)..... maybe there is some kind of lock-out for the manual as well.... maybe if it’s in neutral or the parking brake is not set?
I honestly have no idea. But it may be worth checking out.
