2108 Countryman Won't Read USB

I'm trying to copy songs from a USB drive, but my Countryman won't recognize a USB stick in either USB port. I've tried three sticks (they work in my wife's 2019 Cooper) and the sticks light up, but the car doesn't recognize that a USB stick is there. What could the problem be?

It could be due to the formatting of the USB drive. Try reformatting the usb drive, upload music to it and try again. Some usb drives come with security software that cause reading problems.

I bought a USB key earlier this year and had to reformat it so it could be read by my wife's 2013 Countryman. If I remember correctly, it was formatted in exFAT and I had to reformat it under FAT32. That shouldn't be an issue with your 2018 however.

As the OP is from the future - 90 years or 23040 days to be more the less exact. I say the problem is most likely you bought an antique USB stick form the ole world of 2018. Go get a modern - that is the 22nd century product instead.

Thanks, Minibeagle, but that's the first thing I tried. Didn't work.

Strange indeed. Maybe a loose connection on the back of the head unit where the USB would seemingly connect to? Or a break/short in the line from point A to point B?

I sort of doubt that since both USB ports recognize a phone when it's plugged in with a USB/microUSB cable.

Well now you tell us! J/k.

No idea now. I'd contact the dealer on this one.
