Lagging/Jerking when stepping on it at speed

Bought a 2015 Countryman last Thursday with 51k miles. Test drive went fine. Noticed on the drive home that if I'm at highway speed (70-80) and put my foot to the floor I get some lurching and lagging. At first I chalked it up to the vehicle sitting for a while and the overdrive acting a little funny. After doing some research on here, seems like it can be caused by bad coils or plugs.
If that's the problem, what coils and plugs are recommended for a 2015 S All4? Any other suggestions on what could be causing it?

I would get the codes read. That should give you a clue as to the failure mode.

Otherwise, you are just throwing parts at it.

It's not throwing any codes or error messages. Just acting funny.

Codes can be stored without displaying a check engine light or other indicator.

Do you think it would show up on a regular OBDII scanner or do I need to take it to a place with a BMW scanner?

Depends on the issue. If you plan on keeping the CM for a while, you may want to invest in code reader that specifically reads BMW fault codes. I bought this on Amazon and it works great:
Creator C310 C310+ BMW Diagnostic Scanner Creator C310 C310+ BMW Diagnostic Scanner
. Just need to update the software on their web site and you're good to go.

I was looking at several. That one doesn't list the R60 in it's compatible models. The same company sells a C310:
C310 Scanner C310 Scanner
which does list it.The Creator ones work well though?

I've used it on my wife's 2013 CM JCW and it works fine.

How does that compare to the Carly scanner?

Can't say. Never researched or used it. Some other NAM members may be able to provide you with insight on that.

This happens to my 2015 CMS ALL4 as well and has been that way since I bought it, but happens very infrequently. I have taken it to Mini twice, but they can't replicate the problem. I bought an OBDII reader some time ago to try to record what was happening in Dash Command, but never really had time to look that deep into it and it has never thrown any codes.

Mine isn't throwing any codes but I can definitely replicate it any time I'm doing over 60 and step on it.
I'm taking it back to the dealer I bought it from tomorrow so we'll see what they say. I just bought it last Thursday

Hello all,

This is a common issue on Mini's. People call or name it different things but if you do a search on missng or bogging down youll find plenty of threads,. It is most likely a bad coil or coils and plugs. if your a DIY takes less than 30 minutes and costs approx. $240. Buy OEM coils, dont go cheap and get either OEM or NGK plugs.

Thanks! I did some searching and that was the conclusion I had come to. I just bought the car last Thursday with about 52k miles on it. I took it back to the dealer (a Mitsubishi dealer that had no clue about Minis) and they took it to someone that specializes in imports. They have ordered coils and plugs and will hopefully have it done today. The dealer said they will cover everything.

My 2013 Paceman S All4 was suffering with this. Only happened at higher speeds. I went down the route of replacing plugs and coils. Although the plugs helped a little the fault was still there, and no CEL. In the end I gave it to the dealer to diagnose. From their diagnosis they told me that my battery and thermostat both failed their test. I wasn't convinced that either of these were causing my fault but I replaced the battery myself anyway as it was original. I haven't replaced the thermostat yet as I can see its functioning correctly. It opens at around 105 dec C and closes at around 95 and keeps the temp within these 2 values.

The only other thing that the dealer suggested was to use only Shell Premium gas. Im in Ontario, Canada and this seems to be the highest octane gas available. Petro Canada do sell a 94 Octane gas but i've read mixed reviews about it.

I'm on my 3rd tank of Shell Premium gas and i'm pleased to say that i'm not getting any hesitation/mis-fires/lagging at higher speeds anymore.

I'm not suggesting that this will fix your issue but it's an easy thing to rule out before changing more costly parts, as I found out.

Hope this helps

Are you using premium gas? If it’s from a dealership they may well have filled it with regular unleaded. Run some Techron fuel system cleaner through it on the next fill up, and only use top tier fuel. And synthetic oil change every 5K miles like clockwork!
Good luck and welcome!

As mentioned above only use OEM plugs and coils or you will have misfire issues probably. They apparently tell people that they can run any gas, but not really, it needs premium.
