P2402

I don't see much written about P2402 on NAM. Just got the warning this morning, thought at first about gas cap I don't think think it is that. I downloaded BMWhat app and got the following info:

Motor Control:
Engine / Motor
Fault: :Super knocking
Code: 2F7C
Fault: :Super knocking cylinder 1 / Ambient pressure sensor / Ambient-pressure sensor
Code: 2F76
Fault: :DMTL pump
Code: 3225

1. Has anyone seen this one and if so what did you do? Can I reasonably assume that the DMTL pump called out is going to be the fault. Mini likes to tell you that the codes you pull don't mean anything and you have to fork over the diagnostic fee to troubleshoot.

2. I do recall reading one post that the person said the pump was covered under the Emissions warranty which is longer than the regular warranty that of course just ran out this month for me.

Any tips/help much appreciated.

For the historical record: Using KISS methods, I replaced gas cap and went for long rides over the weekend. Check engine light gone. Mini dealer visit temporarily averted.

Mine is still fine, so the cap was at fault. Could be the pump, how many miles, what year car? If still under warranty see dealer, also check with them as emissions warranty might apply. If it is the pump DIY is pretty inexpensive. Also just ignoring it is probably no big deal, but I'm not 100% sure on that.

mine is an 09 cooper. I have 95,000 miles on it, so there's no warranty opportunity. I was trying to find what part needed replacing, but couldn't get enough info for a part number. Do you have any idea?

http://new.minimania.com/part/G2NME6...ump-Value-Line. , not sure if this is the exact one for your car, you need to input the right car info. Also not recommending that source, it just popped up first on search.

Emissions warranty on some parts is ten years in the USA, check with dealer.

P2402 code on Mini Cooper

I know this is an old thread, but I wanted to post my solution. Unfortunately, I needed to get the car ready for state inspection and needed the "check engine" light to be gone, so I took the advice of several forums and replaced both the gas cap and the Leak Detection Pump. I got the pump for about $60 on PartGeeks. Anyway, the light did not clear after the replacements and I couldn't clear it with my OBD resetter. What did clear it was about 150 miles of driving. We went for a couple of drives this weekend and the light went off finally. Sorry that I did both and was unable to definitively figure out whether it was the pump or the gas cap, but I'm extremely happy that it cleared and I can get the inspection with no problems!! Hope this helps!!

P2402

Xray, any more issues? I just got the P2402 code, checked the wiring, seems to be okay, but still have the problem. I’m about ready to buy the Bosch pump but want to know if you’ve had any more related issues? Thanks...

Changed out the leak detection pump. Very easy job btw. It’s on the driver side just in front of rear wheel. CEL still on. I’m hoping driving now resets it.

No, it hasn’t been a problem since I replaced the pump. I’m pretty sure it was the pump and not the gas cap. Hope everything worked!!

P2402 fault code

My 2011 Countryman All4 (60k miles) detected P2402. I 1st inspected gascap which appeared new shape. So next removed panel left side of fuel tank. No visable damages to carbon canister so proceeded to remove Vapor Pump. As soon as the elect plug was disconnected, I smelt gas fumes. Noted that both plug & socket had wet fuel...(obviously leaking from contact pins and after removing 3 screws even more fuel dripped from plug).
Knowing this...it would seem to be a good fault analysis step to avoid replacing other parts.
Note: prices on Vapor Pump ranged widely depending on purchase sites even thou they were all made in France by Bosch (seemed odd enuf to comment about)
