Hi all,

I'm stumped. For the last few months I've been getting an intermittent knocking/rattling noise coming from somewhere around my trunk area. It usually happens when I go over bumps, expansion joints, potholes, etc.

At first I thought it was the cover. I unhooked the strings and removed it from the car. Still had the noise.

I twisted the rubber stoppers on the trunk door thinking it might be something with the latch. No good either.

I adjusted the rear seats (their lean angle, slid them forward and back). I took out the fold-flat flooring. Still no good.

Has anyone else had this problem?

I'm at about 46,000 miles. I don't think it has to do with the suspension as it sounds like it is inside the car.

It can't be my jack kit, I took that out soon after I bought the car and replaced it with a bottle of slime, pliers, hubcap remover pin, etc.

I was reading about the noise from the rubber/plastic drain cap from the sunroof. I might pull that and see if that fixes the problem. This noise it doesn't matter if the sunroof is opened or closed.

Update for those who might ever get this issue - it ended up being my rear seats (they're two separate bucket seats). For some reason when they're slid all the way back and reclined as far back as they'll go there is a rattling that comes from the mechanism inside the seat. If I recline it a few notches forward or fold them flat the noise goes away.

Problem solved for me!
