mini countryman door rattling noise *solved*
mini countryman door rattling noise *solved*
Hi Guys,
For the last two weeks I have been slowing going insane with the a rattling noise coming from the drivers door. This weekend I took the door apart trying to found the source of the rattling.

I couldn't find anything inside the door, so I took a trip out to some rough road and did a number of tests.. the rattling only happens with the windows up.
Appears there is some worn area up under the rubber seal that puts glass against metal. You can find this by running your fingers along the entire seal, your finger will feel smooth all the way along, if you hit a rough spot, you found it... the source of rattling.

Once I found the rough parts, I cut some tape (I do not recommend using electrical tape as the adhesive on electrical tape breaks down quickly), I used gorilla tape.

Measured to size before putting under the lip/seal.

And placed under the seal, you can't see it straight on - I took this image looking up into the seal.

Rattling gone.
Good temp fix until I can make a trip from San Antonio to Austin MINI to have them fix the seal properly.
Hopefully this helps someone else who is going crazy trying to stop the rattling. Not sure if this voids the warranty (so use at your at our risk).

My 2012 Countryman had a loose strike plate in the driver's side door that was making quite a bit of racket.
