i have about 2400 miles on my countryman now and thought I'd post up about an odd noise I've had since I bought it..

it's a rattling noise I hear when downshifting / engine braking when the air conditioning is on. Lets say I see a red light in the distance. Sometimes I'll slowly shift from 6th - 5th - 4th, etc until I reach second to gradually slow the car rather than using the brake. If I push the accelerator it goes away, but as long as I'm coasting in gear I hear the rattle.

the best way I can describe the noise is that it sounds very similar to a loose heat shield on a catalytic converter (had a similar problem on a Nissan Altima I used to own).

anybody else experiencing this?

 

We've had issues with the spring loaded tabs in the rail cupholders vibrating. It drove my wife crazy. She put her fingers on the tabs and the noise stopped.
Give that a shot and let me know if that was it.
