Oil Film on Oil Vapor Return Line

I have a new Countryman, picked it up on May 12. I drive a lot of highway miles, and I noticed that the Oil Vapor Return Hose on the top right center of the engine had an oily film on it, not dripping wet, just a film.

I cleaned off the oily residue very, very well with rubbing alcohol and noticed it is returning near to the strange clamps at either end of the hose.

Has anyone else seen or experienced this problem? Please reply.

I am really looking forward to several years of owning this car, and mentally I guess I needed to plan better for quirky things, especially given the newness of the Countryman model.

Not that familiar with the inner workings of my CMS yet and only have 1800 miles on mine but if it's anything like my Ford Turbo Diesel what Ford did was vent the crank case directly back into the intake prior to the turbo. This makes an oily mess all over the engine and causes the silicone CAC (intercooler) boots to expand and blow off.

My next mod on my truck will be a crank case vent filter (Racor 4500) which will separate the oil from the vapor before returning it to the intake.

I think you have identified the correct issue, although I did not describe it as well as you, and I am not a turbo or (Mini S) expert. I am unsure what to do about it, if anything other than taking it back to the dealer to consider. I was afraid taking it apart to clean and put back together may not accomplish anything.

PS - I have owned the car since May 12 and I have almost 4,000 miles on it.

I have not noticed this, but will take a closer look and report back if I have this issue too.
If your dealership is nearby, you might drop in and ask if they can look at it real quick to let you know if something needs to be done. My Infiniti dealership is real good about doing that in 5-10 minutes. Have not taken the CM in yet though.

I think I' am having the same problem,my cm only has 1400 miles on him took it in for a check engine light found out it was misfiring in cylinder one. I saw the oil on the valve cover after opening the hood and it was all over the top right side and around the plugs told the dealership when I dropped it off monday and they told me yesterday that out was not leaking, and that it was normal I dont think so . So it will b three days wed that they have had my mini, told me today that they called mini usa and told them to replace all the fuel injectors so dump this shouldn't be happening on a brand new car

I do not know if my problem is the same as your troubles Mavryk03. I did not have my check engine light come on, and the top right of the engine was not soaking wet, only an oil film - just enough oil film to adhear pollen, bugs, and small debris. This is how I was able to see it, and I didn't hear any engine misfire.

I did stop by the dealer a few weeks ago to check it out, and the dealer told me that they thought it might have been shipment grease not completely cleaned off of the engine that had melted from engine heat, which was probably a fair guess given that I only had the car for about 3.5 weeks at that point. As I said, I totally cleaned it off with rubbing alcohol, using paper toweling and Q-tips to be absolutely certain I had it totally free of any residue. It is now back, but not as pronounced as the first view I had of it a few weeks ago. If the status gets worse, I will try and photo it to post.

So i got my mini back after 3 days , Mini usa told them to replace all the 4 fuel injectors and the oil on the valve cover, the mini macanic said the the oil blow by from the turbo into the PVC system advised that during blowoff valve opening some oio will get blow back into the intake via the PCV hose they cleaned the valve cover verifed oring properly seated and reinstalled all, so i guess this is spouse to happen i dont this is my 1st turbo. Anyone know how to fix this or keep it from coming out?

I thought these were the same motors in the mcs? I don't know I have a feeling something raise else happened so I'm going to check it out tonight when I get off work. They said they were doing cold starts and driving it around to see if it threw a code , they better put gas in it this time .

Took mine in for some oil I found dripping down my front bumper and in several small spots in the engine. Small amounts, various places. They replaced the
Oil Pump Solenoid.
