Engine Noise
Howdy all. I have a 2011 Countryman S and was wondering about an engine noise that I am experiencing. Basically there is a ticking noise coming from the engine. It almost sounds like it is a diesel. This does not happen just during a cold-start, but it always sounds like this. I am tempted to drive back to mini to see if another on their lot sounds like the one that I have.
I have searched several boards and could not find any mention of it, which leads me to believe that I am either the only "lucky" individual, or that this is how the engine is supposed to sound.
Anybody have any ideas?

I suspect you are hearing injector ticking noise and its normal, it is I am afraid a modern engine affliction. But to be safe you should go listen to another
fix it by putting on a loud exhaust and new intake :p)

Thanks for the input. I will definitely take it in since my window problem has miraculously reappeared today. Exhaust and intake will come after the upgraded suspension parts....if they ever come out with upgraded suspension parts :-)

Thanks. That makes me breathe a little easier. Now if I can only get the window issue fixed. My local MINI service rep said that they don't even have the computer program for the R60. Talk about poor implementation!
Does it sound like this.

(Countryman all4 with 4200 miles on it)http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t0dtmpuguw0Initially when the car is first started we hear a clanking metallic noise. Not sure what it is but it goes away after a few seconds.
I could hear something in your video that sounded like a lifter that was sporadically making noise. I would have it checked out.
And the other background noise that you hear all of the time are the high pressure fuel injectors that are used by BMW on direct injected engines. Makes them sound like a diesel.
Whirring noise from engine
I've got a different noise problem with my CM All 4. I've had it for 6 weeks and from the start it's had a whirring noise when I'm moving. It's more like a whoop-whoop-whoop, like a helicopter blade sounds as it winds down. When I described it over the phone, the dealer thought it was the turbo fan. But I hear the sound when I'm revving the engine while driving as well as while I'm coasting. It's very subtle, but once I noticed it, I now always notice it. I'm worried that perhaps sound travel packaging was left on a wheel, and I'm hearing it spin with the wheels. Any ideas?
My mini started the clicking sound. I thought it was injector noise, WRONG. I checked the oil and it was almost empty. I have never had a oil loss issue. There was no idiot light to indicate a problem. What a shock! Needless to say I check the oil often. That was a couple of months ago. Two days ago I noticed a few drops of oil under the car. The car is garaged and I had never seen any oil leaks. I checked under the engine and it appears a seal on the left side of the motor has failed. Has any one replaced this? What is the cost?

Sorry to revive a dead thread, but....
I would just do a quick swing by the dealer, but my closest is an 18hr ferry ride and 5 hour drive away...so a little inconvenient.
Thanks!
