problems with Countryman year 1 - 2011

Wow this is the most trouble free MINI ever!

Well there could be a reason for that...

But I for one being a big fan of this new MINI hope that this forum stays relatively empty. If not, here's the first thread to start talking about any issues we encounter in year 1 of this wonderful new addition to the MINI family.

I'll be joining the ranks of new Countryman owners. Not this year, but maybe next. I've designed her already and her name is Greta.

Happy motoring everyone!

Rail accessories crappy. The USB iPhone cord that mini sells will not fit through the hole in the rail phone holder! The holder also must be positioned beneath the armrest, making it ridiculously hard to access. also, I can't figure out how to put them on the rail. I read the manual, but it wasn't much help. My phone is now sitting precariously on the rail or in my cupholder. This seems ridiculous for a car that is otherwise so well designed.

Don't be in a hurry.... it's only been a few weeks since the vehicle's release. And it's a German engineered vehicle, of course it's gonna have problems.

Just remember, those who waited to actually see and sit in a countryman and know these problems probably will not see their cars for another month.

wife's All4 S threw a code last night

On her way to work yesterday, after a 16+" snowstorm, my wife said her check engine light came on. We went out to do some shopping and the light was illuminated for the entire trip.
Got home and I put on my OBD scanner...Of course when I started the car, the light was now extinguished. The scanner showed a code P0118 (Engine Coolant Temperature Circuit High Input). I checked the coolant reservoir bottle and it was fine. Scheduled to take it in for service on Tuesday.

Once again the car threw the same code on her way home from work last night. I called the dealer this morning to see if I could get the service moved from Tues to Mon since we are going to have another snow storm. No luck, they're booked.

I have only had mine since Friday but so far I'm really digging it. I live in the Texas climate so we'll see what happens when summer hits.

Keep us posted on the hight temp issue - I swear mine is getting hot but without a gauge it's really hard to tell. It has not thrown any codes though

Now this not in the same league but the sun visor is useless - its half a size to small - anyone know of an extension thats not to ugly?

It's like my '03 except that my '03's door windows are much bigger than the CM and about 75% of the time are worthless to block the sun coming in from the side of the car.
I was shocked to see that they didn't offer the side shades in the ceiling like the R56's have.

You have a handle now to help you get all the way down when you get out of the CM. It is higher than the R56.

It turns out it was a sticking thermostat. I ordered a loaner at the dealer in case it turned out to be a part they didn't have in inventory. But now I will wait until the car is done.

Anyone notice the passenger side mirror is blocked by the top of the door? Or is it because I'm sitting too low. It didn't happen with my MCS or any of our other vehicles. Just wondering...love this little car!

I noticed the opposite when sitting high the drivers side mirror pointed too much at the ground. I lowered the seat a bit till it worked. It seems MINI has a place they want your head and the seat adjustment lets you get there without a pillow.

Just a thought. I, too, love this car.

Nav. as its keeps asking for the Access code which I have and last night my MA entered in 6 times in front of me..and still did not take. But at the same time the Tech who checked it in and did all the pre-delivery inspection stuff said he entered it and was working fine ....So the dealership is thinking its a software glitch! Know putting a report together and submitting to Mini. Anyone experience the same ?

Flyer53, known glitch with the NAV and the access code. Sometimes it takes 3 or 10 entries.

You dealer may have to have the NAV code regenerated by MINI Austria and sent again. I guess if not entered, they expire or just don't work.

We had to have a resend on ours.

Don

old, thanks for the information.
Sounds like a few new owners of Countryman around the states have had identical issues. I am forwarding your words along with other to them now.
Seems like a easy enough fix. Just a matter of someone keeping on top of it.
Thanks again.

I did hear from my MA last evening, stating that service manager was forwarding a status report to Mini regarding the Nav System. I was hoping all would be needed was a new code, as many have stated to me on this forum. Now they are asking that I leave the countryman for a day or two, as Mini wants them to diagnose the issues and follow some procedure format. So Thursday they have made arrangements for a loaner and I guess we'll see. Not crazy about leaving it in the service shop for a few days with everyone poking at it. Sometimes...not always, but on occasion seems vehicles just never leave in the same condition, whether it be a little mark, scuff, dirt on the seats...just not really keen on the whole idea..but not a lot of choices at this point.
My Mini dealership is right next to the BMW dealership and Mini actually has the Mini's serviced in the BMW shop. Is that true for you that own mini's, joint venture or is it just mine here.

Ahhh!

Ok, yeah, our last MINI was from Universal MINI in L.A., and all work was done across the street at the BMW dealership. I don't know if it still is, but it wouldn't surprise me.

Sorry that you get to be the diagnostic guinea pig, but maybe we all will benefit from your experience and what MINI finds out by going through your car.

Wow. I was supposed to pick up my Countryman 2 days ago, but the dealer says they're having trouble with my NAV codes. Is this a known issue with these cars? They tried several times to enter the code, then said they contacted MINI to get a new code which didn't work. Now they're saying they might have to pull the entire NAV system out and replace it, which makes me very very nervous. I told the MA that doesn't sound like a good idea, as something is going to get screwed up. OMG...this has been a very bad experience so far. My little 2008 MCS order and delivery went like clockwork. This one has been a nightmare.

There have been a few people on the forum who experienced the same issues but did get them resolved. I wouldn't want them pulling it either. I would threaten to not take the car if they tried to.

Chugiakgirl, I'm in the same position. My Countryman is going in tomorrow for at least i if not 2 days. They have to do a total master reset, but never said anything about pulling out hardware I have never had any good experiences to any of my vehicles, a little scratch, scuff, smudges from tools ...going in for this type of service...oil change ok..but exploratory surgery..Yikes!

That's about how I'm feeling right now. So disappointing - It's beginning to really anger me.

Stopped by to see the car today, although Nav is still not working. The only problem with it is the "CODE" which isn't working. They are going to continue to try to get the code to work. I was told that they can only try to enter it once every hour. ? Anyway, I took it for a test drive and I do love it. It has an overall much smoother ride than my MCS. Not sure if that is a positive or not since I like that crazy bumpy ride. But with any luck, they'll get this code thing figured out and just maybe I'll be driving it home tomorrow after work. (fingers crossed). The sport stripes and the blackjack roof and mirror caps look sweet.

Chugiakgirl, Hope all works out for you today !! I will be bringing mine in shortly for what I'm hoping will be a very short stay. .even though they forewarned me it could go into tomorrow (friday). I just hate being the one of the 1st Countryman that gets to be examined/played with all due to no navigation. Not even a week in the states and it's back to the dealership
