Contryman justa - how to add power
hello all. This is my first post.
I own a countryman (non s) and miss power on the 122hp engine. My other car is a chevrolet captiva (similar to saturn vue), and it has 290hp on a v6 engine, so every time I switch between them I feel a big difference.
Before you ask, buying the countryman S isn't an option. in Brazil the price difference between the non S to the countryman S is about USD 20.000. You read right: USD 20.000. I've paid about USD 60.000 on my brand new justa and it is the funniest/joyfull car I ever had in my life. I love it.
So I'm thinking of adding a supercharger to my countryman. Has anyone tried this? I don't want 180hp or more. I just want more agility on daily traffic.
thank you
Fabio

This isn't countryman specific, but generally trying to add forced induction to the non-s coopers is considered a huge, wasteful undertaking that will greatly undermine reliability (and definitely warranty.)
If you want to improve performance, start with intake, exhaust, and weight savings. Get good lightweight wheels and tires. The premium on S cars is pretty high in Canada too, but not that high.. yikes.

Thank you dannyhavok.
I'll only change the intake and the ecu remapping for now. I can't change the exhaust, because we have to do a vehicle inspection every year in brazil.
I still have 2y warranty. After that, who knows... A turbo?!
One more thing: i'm adding a sprintbooster.
Tks

A big improvement!
Sprint Booster + ECU reprogramming changed my non-S contryman completely. Now it's a great car. Of course it isn't an turbo, but now I can have quicker responses.
I didn't pass it on the dyno, but it looks like a 2~3kg more torque. As I was looking for.
Next improvment: new intake.
I think thats all for me... at least for now...

Congratulations, glad it worked out for you! So far I've done a new intake, exhaust, sprintbooster, lighter wheels and tires, and a stiffer rear sway bar. Definitely drives better now, lot's of fun and very punchy. I'm considering a tune as well.

So yesterday I've removed the intake and changed it for the old one. I choose silence.
But I can't complain. The guys from vipcustomparts told me that he 2.5 intake was loud.
Now I'll try the vipcustomparts 2.0 intake. Let's see...

I did 3 tunes on my car:
- Ecu remap (great)
- SprintBooster (must have)
- VipCustomParts intake 2.5 for non-s (very good, but not for me, since it's too loud)
I'm very impressed with the result. But the probleblem, as I said, is that my other car has a v6 with 290hp... Next mini will be an S (I miss the sun roof too).

But my cm is a city car. I think it's acceptable now. It isn't an S, but is a way faster and has quicker responsees then a normal justa.

Gui,
Fiz o remapeamento e o Sprint praticamente juntos.

I know this thread is kinda old. But I have a '12 MINI Countryman non S too.. I am looking to get some more power.. I am just tired of the weakness.
Its an amazing car and I love driving it, but its just so darn weak!!
Today I just changed out the stock air filter for a K&N. This was simple and cheap. I haven't drove it after, but heard it should give a tiny performance boost because it allows more air in than the stock filter.
I am interested in this sprintbooster you spoke about... Never heard of it until I stumbled onto this thread. The thing is I have a manual and I am not sure if it will help a manual since I don't feel any delay which the description of the sprintbooster says.
Also about the ECU remap. What does that consist of? If I talk to a mechanic what should I say? I wont a ECU remap to boost performance? Or should I know something else to be more specific and not look dumb to the mechanic, so I wont be taken advantage of...
Also about intake manifold, is there one you would suggest? link?
Is there anything else that can be done to boost performance which is not too expensive?
I regret not getting the S, but my MINI was almost $35k brand new with all the options I picked. Another $5k was too much at the time... Now I wish I got a All4 for the $10k extra it would have cost me.
Thanks for anything you can share!!
