I'm getting a Countryman in the near future and have had my sights set on the new 2015 CMS. I've specced it out how I want dozens of times, etc. etc. Just recently I came across a 2014 CMS that's specced out just like my 2015 CMS (minus the JCW exterior/interior packages, different seats too), has all the important stuff I want on it, has such low mileage in might-as-well be a brand new vehicle, and I could get it for at least $11,000 less than what I would spend on a 2015 CMS.
So my question is, what are the actual differences between a '14 and '15 model? I can't seem to find any other than the chrome bar on the front grill. I still might go with a brand new '15 regardless, but this '14 is really something to consider if there's no huge reason to go '15.
We were deciding between a 2014 and 2015 as well a while ago. If I remember right, the 2015 comes with front and rear skid plates, side lower trims, LED DRL and fog lights and black speedo.

The front/rear/side trims you mention are for All4 only...assuming you did not pick the JCW Exterior Appearance Package.
You are 100% incorrect. The silver lower side trim pieces come standard on the 2015 ALL4 Countryman (not the 2014) but you can opt to leave them off.
Mechanically the 2014-2015 are identicle. Also of note, all the interior gauges backgrounds in the 2014 are white and in 2015 are a dark gray (much cooler looking i think).
There are some visual changes to front bumper as well. And the LED fog lights on the 2015 are a nice touch but not necesary.
If it were me Id save the $$$ and go 2014. The lower silver trim is meh and I think looks better without it. However the dark interior color of the gauges on the 2015 looks really really nice, but not $11,000 nicer.
Also, one of the biggest things I want are the JCW exterior packages, which this 2014 doesn't come with... but isn't it true that I can have a Mini dealer order a JCW exterior package for me and do the install? If that's the case, then the 2014 is definitely worth it, because that's really the only thing that's bugging me that this guy is definitely missing.

You can order all the parts for the JCW Exterior Package. I believe the side skirt comes primed, un-painted. Check out the link below, not sure if a dealership would charge you more (labor = $$$). Next step is to figure out wheels, if you want the JCW wheels. Prolly $400ish per wheel. However, they do look nice.

Little off topic, i purchased a 2015 countryman, i just found out the other day that if you coose the gloss black roof it might be a gloss black sticker, i took my countryman to changed the roof color and was told by the mommentum mini body shop in houston that is a sticker. In other words it will be expensive to change the color of the roof, i wish mini would disclose this on their website when building your mini.
A sticker? As in a large perfectly fit decal? Very doubtful. Proof?
The advisor at the body shop showed me the outline ofvthe sticker, if you lift your tailgate and you looked were the gloss black meetd the body paint you can clearly see the stucker or wrap, i did not believe it until he showed me.

Whaaaat? Are you sure it's not just the spray pattern? I think this body shop guy is pulling your leg or has no idea what he's talking about...
I'd put that in your pocket, and enjoy the 2014. The 2015 will be last year's model in a few months anyway.
$11,000 could go a long way towards youification parts, a JB+ coilovers, brakes, etc (if that's your type of thing).
I've seen some nice aftermarket speedo gauge faces too, so if you want something other than white, that's possible.
That's what I was thinking. I figured I can get this vehicle for (maybe) around $27,000 versus minimum $37,000 for my spec'd Cooper S. I can put $3,000 in aftermarket parts on it (like I was planning to do for the 15 anyway) and make it faster than even the 15 JCW by far. Then, if I want, I can spend another $3,000 on the JCW bodykit and still be only at $33,000 for what appears to be (for all intents-and-purposes) the same car (between the 14 and 15 models).
Do any of you know if the lounge seats can be bought aftermarket? This is one of the biggest issues as the Countryman has the sport seats, but I'd really want to put the lounge seats in, it's a big deal breaker...
The seats for the front share the same mounts. If you have the rear seats it should be the same for the 2 seat to two seat and 3 seat (bench ) to 3 seat. The seats are not one part number but a ton of part numbers that are piece together and its very expensive from MINI.

Good luck.
Where can I actually buy them from Mini though? And how expensive are they roughly?

A yr ago i was in the market looking for a used R60. Was lucky and found one and right after i purchased it I drove straight to local Mini dealership and ordered the JCW kit. Be sure you talk to them and ask for a discount and or look at your local Mini dealership site as they often have specials/coupons. They will quote you price of the kit, with or without install and labor etc. Front and rear bumpers comes painted, side skirt needs to be painted. I went through the dealer for the kit, paint and installed. I got many motoring gear, parts, and accessories from the dealership and have always gotten a pretty good discount. You just have to ask and talk them into it.
Yea, I would for sure look into a 14 and save up the $11000. Not worth spending that additional IMO. I was in the same boat as you are now since i picked up my 13 last yr, with low mileage and pretty much fully loaded (to my surprise) for about yr price.

My 13 is gloss black roof and not a sticker. BUT i have seen people apply wrap/sticker on top of the roof. I saw it 2x AT the dealership showroom/floor. I even went to talk to them about pricing and if they were Mini staff (nope, 3rd party local ppl). They were wrapping the roof of a new Mini. I think it still comes in the black but when ppl want to change the color or style of the roof they then apply a new color layer on top of it.
