2015 Countryman S All4

Hello, I have a 2015 Countryman S All4 and I hear a whirring sound for a few seconds, then it’s gone for a few seconds, then repeat where it comes on and then off. Sometimes it is louder than others and sometimes it doesn’t occur at all.

Anyone have any thoughts?

Where is the sound coming from?
Inside or engine compartment? Or elsewhere?

Whirring sound inside may be an A/C blower motor. In the engine compartment, it could be the cooling fan.

I’ll need to check from outside the vehicle but it sounds like it’s coming from the center of the dash, like behind the CD player.

Thanks

Thats the fan for the navigation system or radio. I noticed since i have navigation and MINI connected (full screen) it runs most of the time and when its hot out.

I do not have the nav system. Also, it only occurs when the AC is on. It doesn’t occur when using just the dan and doesn’t change with the fan speed

ok, that the a/c then. Possible the fan is making that noise, sometimes the bearing on the motor for the blower can go bad.

Thank you for the info. Wouldn’t the fan still be used when the AC is off or does that use a different blower? Would adjusting your fan speed impact the sound of it’s the blower?
The noise comes and goes, it isn’t steady. It’ll be there for several seconds and then gone for several seconds. Sometimes it’s extremely subtle and sometimes a very noticeable growl like sound.

A/C is off the Fan still moves, under auto a/c its on pretty much all the time unless you shut the system off completely and no lights are on in the display. It will be blank.

Yes turn the fan up and sometimes it sounds better, turn it down to a low speed and it sounds worse, heard that before in a Gen 2 and gen 1 MINI. I would also check that cage on the motor as animals like to build nest on the cabin filter and can sometimes make it to the blower.
