2012 Countryman Halogen to LED swap?

I have a 2012 Countryman with Stock Halogen Lights and am looking to upgrade to LED's. Lumen has a set coming out in a week that have a fan and load resistor built in.
https://www.carid.com/2012-mini-coun...175099785.html
Didn't know if anyone knew if these will fit behind the dust cover on the stock headlights and if they will work without programming. I tried doing an HID kit on my car but the dealer that was going to order and install the lights said that it will not work on my car because of the computer system and the design of the headlight having the dust cover and what not.
Thanks!

Did you ever end up installing an LED kit? I was considering the slightly cheaper G7 kit but was also hoping to find somebody else who's already confirmed that they fit on the Countryman, and they don't produce any errors.

Update - Figured out that I can't use these after-all. They aren't DOT approved so they won't pass annual state inspection where i live.

I have a 2014 Countryman with stock lights. Ebay has kits all over the board claiming fitment for $75 cheaper than ECS. I chose ECS because of the piece of mind that support will be in eluded and the kit was customized for my exact vehicle. My believe is that the Ebay bulbs could possibly the same manufacturer as the ECS kit but will they all be? Will some not fit? What do you do if the cheaper bulbs throw codes? You won't get support from some Chinese warehouse, let alone the availability to exchange partial items if needing a return. I looked at it this way. Good bulbs $30 Ability to Return $30, Customer support $20, Easy instructions on how and where to instal $20. ECS had all that.

Thanks for the purchase of Ziza and we have the install PDF, and have installed / tested them. Also if you have a problem we are here to help and MINI people.

Just want to give you guys a heads up. We now have halogen => projector LED DRL headlights from spyder. These are in the F60 design for your R60/ R61. They are just like the halogen spyder ones fro the R56-R59 but these are for the R60 Countryman / R61Paceman. No Xenon to Xenon version yet.

But these take halogen H9 bulbs ( or if you want to do your own xenon/ led retrofit H9) Bi-halogen. This means they have 1 bulbs that has a flap like the Xenon factory system and when you use the highs, the flap moves up.
Bottom turn signal is standard P21 bulbs and this system is plug and play.

Sold as a Set:

PRO-YD-MCO11-DRL-BK

That kit looks great! I'd like to see it installed on a ECS or NAM member Countryman. I'm especially interested in this with a good LED bulb kit. I'd like to see this vs the stock halogen side by side up on a wall showing the beam patterns.

I had the equivalent Spyder set installed on my R56S before I traded it. The LED portion looks outstanding, and I was able to upgrade the projectors to an aftermarket HID kit (with anti-flicker harness). It was OUTSTANDING and in my opinion, better than the Mini Bi-Xenon headlamps. The cutoff was crisp and the installation and adjustment was simple.

These lights are made by the same manufacturer, and most likely offer the same quality. If you want a Bi-Xenon upgrade for your R60, these headlights and the HID kit in the link below are the solution. It will be 1/3 the cost of what Mini wants for the same job and you can easily do it at home.

808keith found so photos and posted them to this thread https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ml#post4269012

ECSTuning,
Do you know if the amber is only on when the blinkers are activated? How about the DRL? They almost look like they are wired into a relay so I'm wondering if they dim or are disabled when the headlights or blinkers are on.

Yep, just saw that. They are on when you turn the Turn Signal on or the hazard light, they will flash for those lower amber bulbs.

The ambers are turn signals. The LEDs are wired into whatever you choose. On my R56 I wired them into the parking lights so the LEDs would come on instead of the parking lights due to the fact that I installed projector fog lights.

Beam patterns for Stock Halogen vs Spyder Projector headlights

Stock halogen lights - Low beam

Stock halogen lights - High beam

Spyder projector lights - Low beam

Spyder projector lights - High beam

This photo shows best how the projector headlights light up more of the road. I had positioned the MINI so the stock halogen lights would just cut off at the bottom of the door.

More photos of beam pattern

The marks on the garage door are blue painters tape to show the top and center of the previous headlights. I've since adjusted the left side to centered it back to the right.

Spyder Projector - Low beam (exposure adjusted to better show pattern)

Spyder Projector - High beam (exposure adjusted to better show pattern)

Which wire colors should I tap if I'd like to tie them into the top half of the existing DRLs on a 2015 Countryman? Also, is the green wire the ground on the LED DRL?

On the spyder its the black-ground, green positive. On the position lights only or the position lights/ fog light combo, it's those top wire to the position lights tapped into. On MINIs with factory LED DRL Fogs or the MINI factory retrofit you will have to get a voltmeter and see which wires energize as that's a coded system and I did not have those.

Halo on or off at night?

I have a '15 MINI Countryman with the LED DRL Fogs. I figured out which wires to tap:

Spyder black wire --> MINI brown wire
AND EITHER
Spyder green wire --> MINI yellow wire with green stripe (on as DRL but off with headlights)
OR
Spyder green wire --> MINI black wire with green stripe (on with position lights and with headlights, off with DRL)
NOTE: The above wire is on the driver's side, the passenger's side is white with blue stripe.

Are the halos intended to be on or off at night with the headlights? They seem pretty bright and look like they would be generating plenty of glare for others and myself in bad weather at dusk and evening.

Thanks!

Thanks for posting that info on the factory DRL/fog connections.

Halos are intended to be on with the headlights, and they can be either on with the head lights off and ignition on or come on with the parking lights. Yes they do throw off light like the R56 version, but they dont glare at all. The new F56 and F60( which I just saw in person) are more concentrated and brighter than these. And other factory OEM DRL for of car companies are much brighter. Like you can see at night with just the DRL on some cars The ones on the Tesla's are super bright.

An update on these lights as I have noticed that ECS is no longer selling the Spyder-branded version but now show it under the Sonar name.
After installing and troubleshooting two sets of headlights with Spyder directly, I ended up returning them as I had the same problem with both sets. In low temperatures, the solenoids that activate the high beams would start to vibrate. You could hear them quickly activating and deactivating as well as see the low beam shield fluttering the light on my garage door. Spyder was unable to provide a solution or recommendations for further troubleshooting. The reseller was very helpful and responsive and I would gladly buy from them again in the future.
