Hi all, I own a 2011 Countryman S. I bought my Mini used and it looks as if someone used a foam glass cleaner on the Speedo lens. There's some residue on the inside of the lens. Is there a tutorial for removing the lens? I've searched and found tutorials for other Mini models but none come close to the interior of the 2011 Countryman. Has anyone done this?

Thanks TJANK! That's the best diagram I've seen yet. It looks like part 12 just snaps into place and then I need to remove it to get to part 11 which needs to be unscrewed to give me access to the lens. I just need the courage to try and pry off part 12.

 

Somewhere herein these hallowed halls is a step by step on getting this done but it's for the 1st Gen. Even that task is daunting in the extreme. I wanted to 'dust' the inside of mine until I found out what it entails. I have since accepted that dust as part of the ambiance. Capitulation is often the most stress free approach to happy motoring.

 

Thanks for the input Fly'n. The 1st Gen guide is way different the the 2 Gen removal. Mine doesn't have separated dash panels between the air vent. It's like my dash is one huge piece. My speedo glass looks as if someone spilled something behind the glass. The dealer I bought my Mini from said the detail guys used a foam glass cleaner and it must have gotten behind the glass.

I'm going to do a ton of research before I tear into this. I think if I can get part 12 off I can figure out the rest. I'm looking to see how it's fastened and then will dive in.

 

If the dealer admitted the detail guys did it, ask them to fix it. Good luck with it.

 

Update: Spoke with the dealer I bought the car used they won't do the work. They stated they aren't a mini dealer and he's afraid their service guys would break the dash anyway. The sale clearly states no warranty which is fair.

I still haven't taken the plunge to try and pry off the speedo cover.

 

I guess they don't believe in creating goodwill and future business and referrals. Short sighted.

 

Probably so Minnie! Oh well, if I learn to do it myself I'll be happy.

 

Hey I thought I'd chime in. I have replaced the speedo lens before on my CM. You just have to remove the mickey mouse trim piece and you will have access to the lens.
The lens is held in place by about 6 clips that just snap into the speedo assembly. It's not too hard to remove at all.
Also from what I know the lens is not sold as a replacement part by itself, but any speedo from the R56's will fit, just get a cheap used speedo off ebay that doesn't have scratches.
Oh and when you do swap the lenses be-careful with the trim piece that surrounds the radio controls. You will have to swap that over too and that piece is very fragile.

Thanks Alpha! I did some research and found that the Mickey Mouse trim just pops off.

I hopefully won't have to replace my lens. It looks like it just needs a cleaning with a lint free cloth.

Thanks for the info on R56 lens fitting, I'll keep that in mind if I have to replace it!

 

Success! The mickey mouse trim just pops off. Pretty easy if you start at the bottom. this give you access to the lens. 7 tabs hold the lens on. 15 minute process including cleaning the inside of the lens.

On to the speakers!

 

Glad I found this thread. I wanted to remove the lens and do some things in there to add my own touch of customization, kinda do something about that speedo eyesore.

 

What tool did you use to remove that "mickey mouse trim" of the speedometer? I have a film behind the glass and would really like to wipe it off! Thanks!!
