Problem with the Surf Blue Colour?

Hi everyone, i'm a soon to be Mini Countryman owner living in the UK. I recently ordered a Mini Countryman Cooper D in Surf Blue. Two weeks later the Dealership contacted me stating that Mini had issued a bulletin regarding the Surf Blue Option. They didn't provide much of an explanation other than it had been stopped because of some of the surf blue models had been recalled because the color hadn't come up to standard.

Anyway i have now ordered the Oxford Green which i think is equally nice. However, i was wondering if anyone else who has recently ordered their mini in Surf Blue has been informed of this?

Best Wishes
TMorris

I doubt they would release a car that did not meet quality control checks.

Well, my dealership told me the interior surf blue wasn't being made anymore, so I had to change my interior to red (no biggie, white exterior goes with either/or). Going by what you and I are saying, it looks as thought there is a surf blue that isn't up to standards but maybe one of our dealerships didn't read whether it was interior or exterior.

My Surf Blue Countryman S was built last week and is awaiting transport, for what it's worth.

That might be true cause the interior color don't match with the exterior color.

One thing to consider..... Japan produces many electronic parts, they're also known for pigment. Multiple auto manufacturers are quietly cutting back on specific colors because the supplier in Japan is no longer able to produce them. This could be tsunami-related, the timing tells me it is.

I ordered my surf blue mini on the 26th of march. I also chose the surf blue interior thinking it would be a nice contrast. I know both shades of blue are different but from the pictures I'd seen I thought it looked good. I've been told my car goes into production in week 18.

It was a bit of a blow getting a call from the dealer about the colour. Anyway I had to go back in last Saturday to choose another colour. My next fav was green but I had to also change the interior a bit. Didn't think green with interior blue would go. Salesperson didn't say anything about the surf blue interior being stopped. However I have chosen beige which should be a better match.

My only disappointment was the lack of info regarding the stop of surf blue. You can still choose it when designing your mini on the official site. Strange!

Thanks for the responses - I'm jealous of you surf blue owners out there- it looks a lovely colour. Hope mini gets it sorted out.

Mine's surf blue with carbon black leatherette and surf blue accents inside, but I bought it off the lot. The production date looks like 1/11. IDK if that helps (I'm in the states.)

Interior and exterior definitely do not match. I was going to go with this color combo and kind of glad I didn't

The interior looks a bit closer to smurf blue.

Excuse me but I went with it and like it! The problem is that you have not seen it in person. It looks good. Does light coffee white silver rims black interior and polar beige all match? Kinda glad I did not do that. If u got black roof and mirrors and black rims then it would sweet. Sorry, but tired of the smurf comments.

Whoa baby! That blue interior is really striking. I bet it's awesome with the Surf Blue exterior. It's a fresh look & a fun combo for a Mini.

It takes guts to go with something different! Don't take any guff about it.

It would be a real shame if they discontinued Surf Blue permanently. I've seen it in the wild and I loved it. I've got my fingers crossed that things work out ok for all of you.

I also like the contrast in the two shades of blue (getting depressed now) I also think it would look impressive with the LED lighting. Excellent choice mini z.

Ours has a spot on the hood that you can see the primer through. Not great quality control for a BMW product in my opinion. Still haven't figured out what to do with it yet. Really don't want to have the hood repainted so we'll probably live with it. I mentioned in an earlier post that ours was waxed prior to us picking it up, but I think they used glaze to hide any imperfections. If you have the ability to see the vehicle as it arrives, that would be the best scenario.

Read a post on Mini2 where someone had the exact same issue, but with CS. Makes me a bit concerned about the quality control of the plant. I'll post the link but NA may block, its in the CM section.

I was a big fan of Smurf in my childhood and secretly wanted to join them in the mushroom house. Now I am very proud to be part of Smurf Blue, sorry Surf Blue clan!
